I am looking at the BSA contender and BSA Catseye scopes. I have $60 credit for sportmans guide and they would be $130-150, so im wondering if anyone has ever had any kind of experience with these scopes?

THanks.

I have one on my .17 HMR but I would never ever put it on my AR. I don't trust cheap optics. But if you're on a budget, try it I guess.

My local shop is a mom and pop, neighborhood type shop that handles high end equipment, from fishing to hunting.  They handle upper end Zeiss, Kahles and other names that I could drop.  It's where I bought my ACOGs.  The funny thing is that they have stacks of the BSA "Sweet" scopes on the counter and in the case and the guys behind the counter swear by them.  Not in the sense that they're as good as -insert brand name here- but in the sense that they work for most guys that just want to have a decent optic that they can shoot out at the range.  I haven't owned any BSAs and probably won't.  I guess I just have more money than sense to spend on gear, but I have shot a couple of them and they are decent.  As for the scopes that you mentioned, I can't comment.  I'm just making an observation on what I've seen.

Now, if you can or want to double your budget, I can't speak highly enough of the Weaver V line and the Bushnell Elite 3200 series.  Really good glass for the money.

The 3 I had were POS's.  But the only one I paid for was only $39.00 (a Red Dot); makes me wonder if all they did was raise their prices. I ended up sending it back because it was defective.  The other two came bundled as a freebie with other products, or with a gun purchase.

see if they still have some of the Closeout Intensity Optics scopes. That'll be the best bang for your $$$. There made in the Phillipines and will still carry a warranty through ATK.

You'll be further ahead for your price range.

I have 2.  A Platinum 8-32 on my Savage in 204 Ruger.  Not very bright at higher power, turrets don't have hash marks the full 360 degrees, clicks kind of vague.  Not a bad scope, but you get what you pay for.  I have a Contender 4-16 on a very old match style air rifle, set up like a sniper rifle.  Very accurate, but I only use at short range, good turrets, good brightness (but much less power than Platinum).

In that price range, if you could I would suggest Mueller as an upgrade from BSA.  As soon as I can I plan on switching Platinum with a 8-32 Mueller.

Maybe you should tell us what you are looking for, and we can suggest something else in your price/magnification  range.

Im looking for a decent scope for either a 20" precision AR or a remington 700. The more i save onthe scope the better of a rifle I can get.

Right now im looking at a millet LRS and a remington 700 which would be about $1000 combined. The  Precision AR upper is about $800.

I want at least 16x magnification, turrent adjustments with side adjustable focus.

I'll tell you this now so you can't day you weren't warned, the LRS is HUGE!!! I do hear it is a great scope for the funds though. I have a Millett DMS and a TRS-1 and I love them both. Both are on ARs, one is on a M4gery and one is on a 24" HBAR. I am looking at a nice Savage 10FPC (maybe w/HS precision stock) and after all my looking, I'm leaning towards another TRS for the price and newer features. I found that 4-16x is more than enough Xs for the range of a .223 and probably perfect for a .308. I also like the Konus M30 line of scopes. The Konus will have slightly better glass but the Milletts are built like tanks, and they owned by Bushnell now too. The Konus has the bubble level in the bottom of the glass too which seems like a cool feature, especially at a greater range. It was very clear and easy to see on the one I fondled. If you want a 24x M30 you want to get a mount with about 20 moa built in it. They don't have nearly as impressive of adjustment specs as the LRS. And if you get the LRS, get the illumination. It costs more but it is priceless when you need it and it increases the resale value.

P.S. I'm a Remmy fan with a couple of 870s, but for a precision rifle, the Savages seen to have a distinct edge in accuracy out of the box. The trigger is SWEET too!
