Hi all I currently am using a Trijicon Accupoint TR-21, 1.25 - 4X scope on my Ultralight Arms bolt action rifle.  While it works GREAT out to 300 yds, beyond that it is fairly useless.

Having tried my TA33 equipped AR out to 600 yds. with great success I now want to have similar capabilities with my .308.

I am looking for a scope with the following characteristics:

Price: Ideally under $ 500 but I am flexible.

.308 BDC reticule good out to at least 600 yds.

Illuminated reticule, preferably daylight visible.

Variable power I would prefer a 1X  (but can live with up to a 3X) to at least 4X but I can go higher.

Mountable in either 1" or 30 mm rings.  This will be put on a bolt action rifle so ACOGs are out due to mounting restrictions.

Please advise.

Leupold LRT M3.  3.5-10x40  Shop the EE, good deals are found there often.

I found two at good prices there.  I own 3 of them.

Thanks Wilderp but that's a bit more scope than I wanted

What's more important is I want a BDC reticule not a milrad or mildot type scope

Can anyone tell me how far off would a 5.56 BDC be if I was using a 150 gr. 308?

Nightforce 2.5x10x32 with the Velocity  reticle.

Sorry, re- read your post. Sounds like you want a ACOG. Why is the tr-21 "unusable" past 300 yds? I have seen people make hits on 12" plates at 450 with one?

3gun,
I have a TA33R8 ACOG but it would be cumbersome to mount it on a bolt action rifle.

Yes, I'm sure you can hit at 450 yds with a TR21, if the scope is sighted in to do so.  However, if you are set up with a 2" high at 100 yd. sight in then by the time you get to 300 yds the round has already dropped 5 MOA (you can kind of allow for this by using the bottom of the 3.7 moa triangle on 4X, if you know the range is 300) by 400 you are down 8.5 MOA and by 600 its down 17.7 MOA.  there is no way you can use the TR21 reticule to accurately hold over for this kind of correction in the field.  There are no reference points on the single post reticule and its too thick to even see the target at longer ranges.

At this point my favorite contenders are the Valdada 1.1-4 X 26 CRT or the 1.5-8 X 26 but they are EXPENSIVE!.

The 1.1-4 fits in 'normal' 30mm rings and can be found for around $875.  the 1.5-8 looks to be EXACTLY what I'm looking for except for price ($1360) and that it requires .35mm rings which might make fitting it to my ULA bolt action a bit complicated.

I think the IOR is going to be about your only option if you want a variable.   I am not sure why you want a CQB type scope on a bolt gun though.    I would just use a fixed 4x.

Hi Wild,

No CQB requirement at all.  Although I posted here because of the expertise in the type of optic I'm looking for this is a hunting rifle used primarily for deer but has also been pressed into service for coyotes as well.  Under a SHTF scenario, a 6 lb 22' bbl precision .308 with a 1.5-8 X illuminated reticule scope could come in quite handy.

So, I want a scope that at the low end I can "still hunt" being able to hit a fast moving target out to about 75 yds. (like I can with my TR21)  I want to be able to turn the power down to as close to 1X as possible and be able to use it (albeit clumsily) with my PVS 14 for coyote hunting at night (like I can with my TR21).

Unlike my TR21, I want a scope that will allow me to quickly and simply engage targets (short or long pig) out  past the 300 yd. limit of my Accupoint.  I guess going to a 600 yd range with my TA33R8 equipped POF has shown me how easy it is to hit at intermediate range with a BDC reticule.  I had both the above rifles that day and it really opened my eyes that the 5.56 was hitting a 10" circle with regularity at 600 yds and the .308 (that is capable of sub moa groups all day long) was out of it's league at 1/2 that distance.
