When a scope has been mechanically zeroed does the line of sight through it co-align with the axis of the tube?

Maybe.  If everything is perfect then it should be.  But, things aren't always perfect.  If the scope is mounted on a weapon, it's unlikely because you're dealing with differences in the axis of the scope, the gun's receiver, and the rings.

Thanks for your reply. I am specifically wondering about an unmounted scope. If you turn the elevation turret all the way to one extreme and then count how many clicks it takes to turn back to the other extreme then this would be the amount of internal adjustment in the scope. Dividing that number in half and turning back the turret from one of the stops that many clicks gets you to the scopes mechanical zero. Do scope manufacturers try to align that mechanical zero with the centerline of the optical tube or is it arbitrary?
