This thread is not about aimpoint vs eotech so please dont start that BS. That being said, I just got my eotech in today, I love it except one thing. While at the range I had a problem with the brightness of the reticle. I dont know if it was just the light outside or what but it was kind of hard to see the reticle. It was mostly over cast today and the back drop of the range is a light sand color. Would the gg and g hood help with this or is there a problem with my sight. And before you ask yes the brightness was all the way up...thoughts?

perhaps try some new batteries?

Yeah, new batteries or contact eotech. Oftentimes I have to turn mine down when I first turn it on.

I will try new batteries tomorrow and see if that helps. Any thing else i should try?

Did you buy from a reputable dealer? There are many near-identical Eotech clones out there and insufficient brightness is one of the signs. Keep us posted!...

I bought it off the equipment exchange and it came with the original packaging. It all looks right to me.

I have to turn mine down as well once turned on. It's pretty bright. (both 557 and 553)
Try swapping batteries.
If the reticle seems grainy - then it's real. It doesn't look like a clone to me.

That looks legit.

I would try new batteries, if that doesn't work call Eotech and see what they say. "Allegedly" that is a BNIB eotech that was swapped out for warranty reasons.

I would have to agree with the above posts. I typically have to turn my 553 down a bit. There has never been an issue with it being too low or not bright enough! If new batteries don't fix the issue contact EOTech. The GG&G lens covers really won't effect the brightness because the brightness levels on all EOTechs are manual not auto adjust. I hope who ever sold you the 512 didn't know about this issue and sold it anyways. I like to think of this forum as a community of friends but even so...some people are just looking to make a buck. Make sure you are using lithium AA batteries. Don't waste your time with alkalines. Paul

My used 512 I got has this problem. It's not very bright. My other Eotech & even my Bushnell are way brighter. I sent it into Eotech to get it fixed up.  $58+shipping. I have yet to get it back though.

Corrosion/crud on the battery contacts could cause this as well. If new batteries don't help then take a hard pencil eraser and go over the top of the springs in the battery compartment & the battery contacts on the front of the main compartment.
HTH, keep us posted!...

My 5 year old 512 also seems to have this problem, which started up recently.  When I turn it on (new L91 batteries) it looks like it's at setting 6, when compared to my brand new XPS2-0.

I just replaced the batteries and it helped. Its def a lil bit brighter now. Gonna try the eraser thing and report back. I think its fine now bc when I took it outside I had to turn it down one level to get it where I would like it.

Depends upon how bright it is outside. 14-16 usually works for me outdoors and 8-9 in lowlight situations.
