Hello everyone.  New to the forum.  Picked up a StagArms a while back and have been having a great time at the range with it and its iron sights.  Those are all I've ever used to qualify on up to 500 yds but I'd like to try some optics.  Looking for something magnified but there is so much information out there (and here), it's a bit overwhelming.

My budget is about 200.00 and was looking for some advice.

Did I mention that I also have the detachable carry handle, so I'm wondering is I should mount on top or remove it and mount on the rail?

Thanks in advance.

I like the height of using the primary rail, as opposed to the handle.  Like a good low cheek weld.

I would go with a Primary Arms.  Anything else is a waste of money until you reach the $350 mark.

You gotta watch the equipment snobism.  That statement about everything under $350 being junk is BS.

I've never  been in the military, I'm not an LEO and I don't usually shoot long distances (past 300 yards), but I do have a bigger budget than most and have tried out a LOT of stuff and I've found that although you often get what you pay for, there is some nice equipment to be had without having to pay a premium price.  If you don't need the equipment to be able survive a war or earth quakes, but just solid equipment that works there are a few options.

What sort of scope are you looking for?  Something small with low magnification?  If you qualified out to 500 yards with open sights, you may not need a bunch of magnification.  I tried the Millett DMS-1.  I won't comment because many here like them, but I GAVE mine away.  For under $200 I tried the Burris Timberline fixed 4X.  It's small, light and compact.  Pretty good glass, but didn't bring in much light at dusk and in the dark.  From what I've seen, the hands down winner in the low cost, low mag department is the Weaver Classic V3 1-3X scope.  CLEAR glass and does a pretty good job of grabbing light.  I think it was around $150.  Get yourself a set of Warne AR rings and you're set.  Golf balls at 100 yards were easy with this scope.  For what it's worth, I think it's the best scope that you can buy for under $200 for its intended purpose.

If you want higher magnification, the only scope I'd look at for under $200 is the Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10X.  That scope shocked me for the money.  For around the same price, the Elite 3200 3-9X40 was pretty nice too.  It was almost about on par with the Zeiss Conquest that I had in terms of clarity.  The Bushnell Elite 3200 line is tough to beat for the money.  I'm sure that there's more stuff out there, but for your budget, I'd check out the Weaver Classic line and the Bushnell Elite 3200 line.  They are great values.
