Was hog hunting near Austin last week and have a question about optics.  Was using my AR15 Performance 6.8 SPC with a Luepold 3.5 x 10 VXIII.  This was my first hog hunt and didnt realize how close some of the shots would be, actually had trouble picking up close/running pigs before they disappeared in the woods.  Would I be better off switching to an eotech or mounting a lazer on the side rail and shooting from the hip?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Great fun! wont be my last hog hunt.
Thanks

aimpoint is what you need.

Decided on a lower variable (Weaver Extreme 1.5-.4.5x24 illuminated german #4) for my AR10, which I hope to use as a hog gun.

Wish the optic has more daytime illumination ability, but the #4 reticle is pretty quick to pick up at 1.5x.  The 4.5x should give me plenty of magnification for shots out to 200 yards.

I had a millet dms-1 on my gun for hog hunting and night hog hunting.
I ended up taking it off my 6.8 because the lower power scope did not fit my needs.  The Millet is a great product, but I need
more power to be able to shoot out to 300 yds.  I can not shoot that far with a lower power scope, but i take my hat off to those who can.
I put a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on my 6.8.  It is a better match for me.
The millet is going to see life on my s&w .22 I just orederd.

This..

For what your doing a 1x4 type scope like a kdot or something similiar will work very well.  Something you can aquire targets very quickly with, or adjust for identifing longer targets if need be.

The Burris XTR 1-4X with Fast Fire on top works excellent on running hogs at 225 yards!
