I have a TA31F-G on my Spike's AR and was wondering if I could get some opinions on flip-up caps for it. Price is NOT a factor. I dropped a retarded amount of money on the optic (more than the rifle...thanks Tom) so I think a good quality set of flip-up lens covers is a must. Let me here it! Thanks.

I'd suggest a bikini cover, instead...

Why do you suggest this?

Going to be cheaper, and I think easier to use. Just give a tug and twist, and both lenses are uncovered.

That or a Scopecoat...PK Firearms sells both...

This is currently the best photo I have of my ACOG w/Killflash and lens caps.

The setup consists of the TA91 Killflash and TA94 and TA95 flip covers.

If you decide to go that route, I suggest a small mod to the Killflash.

Three layers of electrical tape makes the fit nice and snug.

Wow I had no idea caps are made for ACOG's. I just use my scopecoat.

If a particular piece of gear isn't attached, I'll probably lose it. (note the two rubber bands being utilized to secure the Killflash )

Saves me money in the end.

GG&G has an Accucam QD mount with integral lens covers.  About $200.

What I use is a  front flip cap from progressive machine- its metal and flips down. For the rear, I cut the front "plug" section out of a trij bikini cover, tied a square knot in the rubber band at the front, and zip tied the whole thing to the scope body. Flip down the front, pull down the rear.

I'm pretty set on the LaRue mount. I looked at the GG&G Accucam and really like the integrated caps but I don't like the mount it's self nearly as much as I do the LaRue QD LT-100. So, now my decision is between the TA91 RCO Kill Flash (objective) with TA90 flip up caps (objective and eye piece) or the TA57 kill flash with out the flip up cap (objective) and the TA95 (eye piece) flip-up cap. Hmmmmm...decisions, decisions.

Well, it's a grand total of $20 difference between the two configurations.

As I usually store my AR muzzle-up, having the front cap is nice for keeping dust off the objective lens.

Lens caps are just in the way, no need for them IMO.

Buy a good lens cleaning kit, use as needed.

Well...I just ordered the RCO killflash and caps for both eye piece and objective lenses. I'll post some pics when they're on
I'm not worried about the cleanliness of my lens. I'm worried about scratching it. I don't know about you but I don't have the skills to clean a gouge out of my glass.

The ARD for 4x32 ACOGs is secured by a single, solid rubber tube.  I put away all the bikini covers and scope coats that came with my ACOGs, they all have ARDs in front.

Lens caps and scope covers are a pain, they do serve their purpose, I'm just not using my scopes in environments that justify putting up with them.

I said IMO, your opinion can be different than mine. This is a "discussion forum", not a "we all must agree forum".

Scope covers of any type are on and covering the glass when you aren't using the scope...so how can you gouge the lens? You open them when using the scope...and they don't do anything but get in the way. The front lens on a ACOG is very hard for anything to get to it with it's built in shade. I might buy a killflash, but for it's real reason, not because I fear scratching the lens.

I haven't gouged or scratched a scope lens in 45 years of using scopes so I feel the chances are slim to none of it happening. This is just my opinion.

If anyone likes caps, covers, bikini's or whatever on their scopes it's fine with me. I do use flip up covers on my deer rifle scopes to keep the snow out, but somehow managed to hunt for 25 years without any before I started using them.

CRogers,

I just bought an ACOG last night and I'm waiting for my LaRue mount to arrive I've been giving caps a thought and all the other available options.

I'll be waiting to read your review! I'm kinda a flip cap person myself. I don't like rain, snow, grime, or dust getting on my lenses if I can keep from it. If my environment changed to make them unnecessary or hazardous to my health ... I'd just remove them. Until then I'll cover those $1,100.00 lenses.

War? Did you bother to read and then attempt to comprehend what I said?

Excuse me...I am so sorry if I offended you or you wife or your dog because I stated my opinion. I'll try to remember not to reply to any of your posts in the future.

Duffy, You know I'm not easy to offend...actually I can't be offended. But it seems that some around have very thin skin. I just stated my thoughts on caps and covers and if anyone likes them that's fine too. I was just kidding about not replying to his posts.
