Hi, I have a 16' m4gery rifle with a standard fsb. It has an aimpoint t-1 on it and I am trying to decide on what rear iron sight to put on the weapon.  Is there any real advantage to using an iron such as the mbus over a sight like the Daniel defense fixed rear sight?  My rifle is going to be used for 0-100 yards max and I am a bit worried about the co-witness factor with a fixed rear, but If (god forbid) the optic goes down I won't have to flip up a rear sight to have full use of my irons.

any and all input is appreciated!

sounds good, I'm looking for suggestions/tips of the two types of rear sights.  Hopefully I'll never need it...

A fixed rear sight just seems counter-intuitive if you're going to run optics...it'll screw with your sight picture, and there's just no reason for it if your primary sighting system isn't going to be your irons. In virtually all cases where you're going to be running optics, flip-up BUIS>>>>>>>fixed. For good "budget" choices I'd recommend either the Matech (current military issue) or the Magpul MBUS. In any case, to flip up a sight takes all of half a second and the impaired sight picture you get from a fixed iron just isn't worth that half-second. I honestly don't know of anyone with optics who has fixed rear irons. Not saying they're not out there, but still, there's a good reason why the majority of AR-15 owners with optics use flip-up BUIS's.

I'm very happy with my Larue BUIS. Simple, bulletproof, and its lower third co-witness doesn't interfere with the sight picture on my Eotech. I think flip-up sights are fine with a magnified optic, but fixed is best with an RDS. YMMV.
