I am in a dilema of what to do for a short to medium range scope for an AR (15 - 350 yards). I currently am using an aimpoint but my eyes are not what they used to be and I would prefer some magnification but still want a low power available for quick short shots. I know you can do the whole magnifier setup but it seems a little cumbersome, and there is no way to adjust for elevation on the fly other than guessing your holdover, because of this I want a scope that either has a reticule that allows for proper holdover markings, or easily adjustable elevation. I have been scouring the optics pages for a while and have narrowed down my available choices. I definately want daylight visible illumination which to my knowledge limits me to the following:
Meopta K-dot 1-4x Trijicon TR24 1-4x Swarovski z6i 1-6x Elcan Specter DR 1x, 4x Schmidt & Bender Short Dot 1-4x I realize that my first three choices do not have exposed turrets nor a BDC style reticule, but it seems a lot of people still do very well with them and can still adjust elevation in the field. The Elcan has a BDC reticule, and the Short dot has target turrets. The last three on my list are getting very pricey. I don't mind dropping the dough on a one time purchase as any of these on my list should give me a lifetime of service, but it would definately delay my purchase for a while. Speaking of which, the Elcan's 1 year warranty scares me a little since they run approx. $1800 .
I think my first choice would be the K-dot or the Trijicon if you could get a custom elevation knob for it to easily adjust it on the fly. They both have decent glass, a good price and an illuminated reticule. So back to my original question does anyone manufacture custom elevation knobs for these models? Any help is greatly appreciated. |
