How long and at what setting have you left your Aimpoint on? Listing the model would be helpful as well.
I have a T-1 Micro going for a year and a half on setting 7. I want to show a friend of mine the results. Poll Inbound... |
| I bought one about a year ago, M2 I think. Got it for $120 because it was "broke". Turns out it had the extended battery cap but not the little sleeve that held the batteries together. I stuffed a ball of foil in it close to a year ago and it has been running ever since. |

You need an option for those who turn theirs off. +1 +2 why would anybody leave it on? just because you can? I definitely see an advantage to leaving it on if you're an LEO or military, just one less thing to have to worry about in a stressful situation, the same reason why you carry a handgun with a round chambered. However, since I'm not LEO or military, and my AR isn't my primary defensive weapon, I figure if I have enough time to open the safe up, grab the AR, put a mag in, charge the weapon, and open the flip caps on the Aimpoint, I'll also have enough time to twist the little dial turning it on. |

I have had mine for 6 months now. I leave it on setting 6 and have seen no dimming. I leave it on because if I turn it off the battery will get old and go bad before it actually runs out of juice This exactly, and same here 6 months setting 6 comp m3. and hey if it finally runs out in another 2.5 years, i have another battery in the larue mount. |

I'm paranoid about leaving batteries on and keep mine off until I flip up the lens covers to use it. How hard is it to twist a dial seven clicks? But if leaving it off actually weakens the battery I'll leave it on. |
| I didn't get my first Aimpoint until '08 but I now have 3 (1-T1 and 2-M4s) and I've yet to turn one of them off. Can't tell you the settings as I don't pay attention to what setting they are on and tend to dial them up or down depending on the environment I am in at any given time but I would say they are almost always somewhere in the middle. I have to say while a year + is cool, it no where near a good test considering how long they are spec'ed to run. |

But if leaving it off actually weakens the battery I'll leave it on. It's doesn't, that's the most retarded thing I have ever heard. All batteries have shelf life, whether they are used or not. Within that shelf life, the battery is either discharged, or not. I Have had the same battery in my Aimpoint since 2004. It has been used dozens of times at the range, for drills and other things, but is always turned off after use. It stays on the rifle. The dot is just as bright as it was the day I bought it, with the battery already in, in 2004. It is a standard battery and not a lithium. |

Turning it off doesn't weaken the battery, but the expiration dates on most batteries mean by the time an aimpoint drained the battery it would be expired anyway. |
