Does anyone have experience with the 1.5x and 2x ACOG?

I have a 4x on my duty issue M4 and enjoy it but am now searching for something to use at a max range of 200m and have no experience with the low power models. This would be in addition to a unmagnified sight for close in, any thoughts would be helpful, thank you.

I run a 1.5x with the amber crosshair on my KISS A1 carbine on the carry handle. Eye relief and exit pupil is huge! It's red dot fast and helps me see a little better due to bad eyes. The BAC works great. I picked the crosshair model because to me it was easiest to use when the illumination conditions are not ideal (like shooting from the dark into the light).

IMO a red dot with a 1.5x power would be a waste. I can't speak to the 2x models. Also, the standard carry handle mounting works GREAT with the mini ACOGs.

I have no issues at all nailing my 1/2 size torso steel target offhand at 200 yards with this optic/rifle.

My only complaint is that it can be too bright in lot's of sunlight, but if you don't have astigmatism that would be less of an issue I think.

I have one of these and love it. Its really quick with its reticule and small as can be. I wouldn't think you would even need another optic with this. It has a good FOV and the BAC is easy to use. Plus it adds almost no weight to the rifle. I think my Larue mount weighs more than the optic

ETA: Also, in your second picture it looks like the optic covers a lot of the view around the sight picture but i think its exaggerated because of the camera. At least with mine anyway, there is almost no coverage around the sight. Just FYI.

Another vote for the 1.5x24 compact ACOG with red crosshairs.  Fast up close, with absurdly large eye relief.  I mount it fairly far forward to give myself the best peripheral vision.

The field of view on that blows. Almost defeats the purpose. There's just very slight magnification, yet there's severe tunnel vision. However, the ACOG is damn near indestructible and there's no battery or electronics failure. Also, very light and compact.

I played with a 1.5x24  ACOG with the red doughnut of death the other day and it was bitchin'
900 bucks is the only thing stopping me from having one...

I ran a TA47-2 2x20 compact ACOG / LaRue mount on my Colt in a deployed location. The FOV and ER are both very good. My problem(s) with using the 47 were;

1)  Front sight tower blocks much of the magnified image. With such low magnification and Height Over Bore the use of this optic on a weapon with a fixed front sight was a problem (for me) that I was not able to adjust to. Use of the OEM mount may well have solved this problem but since I didn't have one available....

2)  I never warmed up to the amber reticle. Having used a TA31F and it's red reticle I can say that, for me, red is a better option. I would like to try an ACOG with a green reticle, though.

I did like the TA47-2 ACOG very much but I ended up trading mine for an Aimpoint M4/LaRue combo that I used in conjunction with an AP magnifier that has, so far, served me well.  Ironicly, I'm in the market for another compact ACOG to go on a weapon that has folding irons front and rear. More than likely I wlll go with the TA33RH. Good luck.

I like my TA44-5.
for me the FSB is not a big deal once you get used to it and learn to focus on the target.
I've used it during a dynamic shooting match from 1 to 35m and I loved it.
the max distance I had the chance to try it is 100m from the bench...the dot cover a 20cm target perfectly.

before I get my M4gery it was mounted on top of a carry handle on a M16A2gery.
IMO it's the perfect scope for a CH.

i really want one of these but I just cant seem to spend $900 on a 1.5 or 2x optic when for half the money or less I can get an aimpoint. The battery argument is moot. with the ACET diode the batteries last so long it competes with the half life of tritium.

I played with a 1.5 power at my local fun shop the other day and I could not get over how easy it would be to use indoors!
I have a TA33-8 that i have no problem using 200 and closer but that's just me.
Good luck, let us know what you think of whatever you get.

I use a TA44S-10. I love it! Here's a thread where I describe it and show photos of it:
