| How would one use a rear buis if a eotech fails? Would you just fold the rear sight up and look through the eotech lens or would you need a mount to fold the eotech to the side? |
| If your Eotech fails and you are within 10-15 yards (depending on your skill level) just use it as a ghost ring sight. You will be surprised how effective you can be with a bit of practice in this mode. Sometimes referred to as "shooting the tube", we teach this in all of our Patrol Rifle classes. |

With a EOThing plan on this happening and be ready for it. Dang, I wish someone had told me this before I bought a EOTech XPS2. I didn't know that failure was imminent. Read the front page of this forum. Two EOTech failures on it alone. Is it common on a web site like this to post about failures more than non-failures? |

What if .....what if......what if.......use a pistol? Use your hands and teeth? Pack up and go home from the range as 99.99% of people here in the states will not need to engage in moral combat at close distance anytime soon.....?
And yes, failure makes the news more than success does. The reason people harp on EOTech failure is that there is a problem or a perceived problem with them and if you are going to spend your money and buy a sight you should know there could be issues with it. If you never hear horror stories about an optic chances are there are few reasons to worry about it. Where there is smoke........there is fire. |

Not to ruffle any feathers, but.....
Even if the glass is broke, or some mud ? on it, (which, if this is your "in the house", "GO TO" gun, you've got some splaining to do Lucy)...the red dot is still visible somewhere on the lens. If you can still see it, you can still use it. That's the plus side of any Eotech, besides the greater viewing field. Other than that, If you can't "point aim" instinctively from WAIST level with an AR out to 30 yrds, and hit a man sized target, you've got some serious trigger time ahead of you. Even with a 5 or 6 shot revolver, the first shot would shit their pants and confuse them, while I start even trying to aim on the next shots, which would be double taps. This is why I keep a Glock 23 handy for myself and my wife. My 7 ARs are more for fun and SHTF scenarios in reality. OK for SWAT, not so good a choice if you have a Glock and a riot shotgun (yeah, what the Nazi's called a cruel weapon) in the home. If I wasn't home, and got broke into, I can replace a riot shotgun for 1/3-1/5th the price of one of my ARs... No matter what optic or sight inside the house, this is how I'm gonna be shooting. It's probably going to be two rounds of pump, pistol gripped 1300 riot shotgun per perp (one 00, one #4), as much as I love ARs, anyway. Time to actually "aim" through any sight is a luxury in my living room...........there's always time to "aim" on the final shot so they don't come back (or pull a Freddy Krueger). My kid's lives are worth much more than replacing some red carpet.
Now, if you have MUD or a cracked lens on your "safe queen Eoteched carbine", and that's what you choose to defend yourself, well....WTF?....... nice maintenance, there.
If outside, "over the tube" or "instinctive shooting", you'd better know. Sights, IMHO, are for past 25-30 yards, if time permits. (even on pistols, unless you're shooting for scores) The weapon has GOT to become a PART OF YOU. Have a nice day. |
