Hey guys, I am new here, and have a few questions for you.
I just purchased my first AR15, its a DPMS AP4 Panther with removable carry handle.
I also purchased a scope riser tha sits in the carry handle and a Aim Sports Inc 2.5-10X40 DUAL ILL. TACTICAL SCOPE
My question/concern is this-
I took the rifle to the range and sighted it in on the 50 yard range with iron sites, getting 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups, then sighted in scope on the 50, getting 1 to 1 1/2 groups, being satisfied with the 50 yard range I then moved to the 100 yard.
6 shots later I was not hitting the paper at all, a few more shots later and aiming at the bottom of the target I discoverd that bullet impact was about 8 to 12 inches high. So I began dropping the crosshairs and got it sighted in.
Do any of you have any suggestions, is this normal, am I making a huge mistake with that particular scope and trying to mount it on the carry handle.
Thanks in advance

I'm to tired to type a long response....  Short version...

Mounting a scope on top of the carry handle is not ideal...  You need to remove the carry handle and get a mount for the flat top.

The Burris or SWFA are decent econimical mounts.

I am not sure what to do, I love having the carry handle and using iron sights also

The biggest problem that I see with the carrying handle scope mount is that I have not seen a mount that won't at least wiggle a little bit even when tightened as secure as possile.

Carry handle mounted scopes and sights suck. Get a rear BUIS.

So are you saying, remove the carry handle, get the rear buis and mount the scope to the flat top, and if so what do you suggest

Pretty much.  Although, if you are going to want to take the scope off to use your BUIS, you will need a quick release scope mount that will not lose zero when you pull it off and replace it.  (hint: LaRue)

Let the battle begin.

Assuming that you are using irons with the 200m (yd) zero.
Point of impact should be point of aim at 50, then ~ 1.5" high at 100.
Many variables, but this is close. YMMV

I would zero the irons first.

Check the RIBZ sticky at the top of the forum

Where to start ? There are so many choices depending on budget and what you are doing. The more you can spend, the better. Cheap scopes and red dots are just that: cheap. For value in a standard style scope, you can't beat the Bushnell 3200 line. In a red dot, both Aimpoint and Eotech have some $400 or so models.
Primary Arms has some good lower-budget choices.

Ok thanks for the input gents.
Is there a way that I can mount the scope to the flat top and still use my iron sights.
I have to agree that mounting the scope on he carry handle is setting it way to high.
I am new to the ar world, having shot m16's in the military, iam learning alot.
I want to use a scope and iron sights.
