I have a Noveske Recon upper on order. I shoot out to 200 yds (all I have at my range). I was going to put a 2-10 optic on it and shoot groups with this setup. I have been thinking of putting an acog or 1-4 instead lately. Is this a waste of incredible accuracy? 4x is not enough for me to shoot groups with because my eyes aren't good enough to see at those distances but I've been thinking of dropping the "bench rifle" idea for this setup. What do you guys think? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I have a Noveske Recce barreled upper and have used both the AGOG 4x and also a NF 2.5-10 NXS. While you will still be able to hit the target out with the ACOG, obvioulsy it would be a little easier to get tighter groups with more magnification. My acog with the 4MOA dot covers up quite a bit at the 200yd distance but is still sufficient to get shots on target. |

I'm wondering if its a complete waste to put an acog on super accurate rifle. Like a waste of potential accuracy. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I wouldn't say it would be a waste, one of the site staff members (new_arguy) a long time ago, shot out to close to 600 yards hitting a man sized target with an ACOG and a 14.5" busmaster..the ACOG is a battle scope first and foremost. If precision is what your intensions are, I would suggest a precision scope to fill your needs. ACOG's are a fixed power scope so getting a variable precision scope would give you more flexability at various ranges IMO.. |
| I agree with jBoy723. Let the mission, not the barrel, determine your choice of optics. For "bench rest" type precision, I prefer the traditional crosshairs of a scope such as my Leupold Long Range M3. But for fast target acquisition (and great optics), I prefer my ACOG. I put a TA-11 on my Noveske Recon barreled rifle, and love it. |

A bunch of my military friends brag to each other when they come home about their accuracies so this information is subject to BS, but its not uncommon to get hits on a human outline at 800m with an ACOG/14.5" colt. I don't think the ACOG will hinder your accuracy much, but the 10x will help for target ID etc. 2.5-10 or ACOG, I'd choose ACOG for the versatility and liquidity. ACOGs are great all around optic and offer adequate precision for 99% of applications, and if you dont like it, it can be sold on the EE within an hour. I vote ACOG, if you dont get the groups you want, try out the 2.5-10. Can the recon upper be held back by an ACOG? not within the practical range of the 5.56. The BAC / no battery / looks factors are an extra plus too.
PS i have bad eyesight as well, I finally took the glasses to the range and it made a world of difference. |
| I have a Noveske Afghan which I was running a Aimpoint on. I wanted to test the accuracy so i put my NF 2.5X10 compact on it. Needless to say the NF is still on the upper. Some might call it a little over kill but man that thing can shoot tiny groups! And Ive banged steel @ 600 yards with it. I guess it all depends on what you plan to be doing with it. |
