i planned on getting a scope stand from creedmoor, but they have been back ordered for a long ass time.  creedmoor sells a freeland brand stand for half the price.  is freeland a good stand?  or should a just wait for creedmoor to get their stand in stock?  if i go with the freeland, what is more stable the zoom head or the saddle head?

I love my Ray-Vin after having a Freeland.

Freeland was a good stand if you are static.  Depending on what size your scope is, bigger? go to the tripod

I'm looking for a scope stand as well, and will probably buy next month.  I've pretty well decided on the Ray-Vin also.  I like the way the adjustments are made with one "knob", and the easy way that the whole scope and head come off of the stand.  Also the ability to carry a Dewey cleaning rod in the stand is cool, too.

Renn, do you find that the Ray-Vin head holds your scope solidly enough?  The only complaint I've heard about the Ray-Vin is that some people have mentioned trouble getting it tight enough.

The Ray-Vin head works for me and its simplicity is what sold me.  What I do is loosen the knob enough to get the scope into position then tighten it snug.  The trick is getting the tension on the knob right for what you are going to do.  Sliding the scope up and down and finally moving the scope into fine adjustment will depend on how much tension you work up on the knob.  I have a Kowa 601 and love the combo. I never had a problem of the scope being NOT tight enough.  I have had a problem with the scoep mounting breaking free from the head, but a good cleaning of the threads and application of some Loktite fixed that.
Other reputable stands are the: Ewing, Creedmoor "big Blue", the Giraud and First Strike.  They all have their design features. Again, simplicity is what sold me on the Ray-Vin.  Freeland has been around forever and their stands now incorporate 1" rods, which I think contributes a lot to the steadiness of a stand.
