One of the newest AR owners around probably....
I've been researching BUIS for my M&P-15OR. The Troy flip ups look nice (for around $250/set). The Magpuls look nice too, but are far less expensive. Can someone with some insight explain why? Do I really get what I pay for with the Troys or are the Magpuls just as functional? I'm not Military or Police. Just a (mostly) law-abiding tax payer that likes to feel like he still lives in the US by being able to own and shoot guns and protect me and my family. I'd like the sights to be reliable, but range use is hopefully all this rifle will see. But, on the flip side, I don't want to go with cheap sights just to save a buck. Thanks. |

I have a set of MBUS on my RRA 6.8 with a YHM Diamond rifle length quad rail. The MBUS are OK. Kinda cheap feeling because they're plastic, but they get the job down. I forget what the correct terminology is, but my Magpul front flip sight has an odd shaped hood (circular) on
the front sight post i don't really care for. That's cosmetic though. If you're looking to be on the economical side (not wanting to drop $250 on BUS), check out YHM flip sights. They are priced nicely, and extremely durable. They don't sit as low as the MBUS when folded down (may be an issue to some folks running optics who need clearance), but I like my YHM's. If I need another set of BUIS, YHM is where I will look. $250 on BUIS is f'n ridiculous, but that's just my 2 cents. I'm sure Troys are nice though... |
| I have both Troy and Matech on my builds. I prefer the Troy (~$120-140.00), but the Matech (~$45-60.00) is just fine for a BUS. Criticisms can be found on the Matech by searching this forum. I think my next purchase might be one of the GG&G flavors that can be found for ~$80.00 on ebay right now. I have considered one of the UTG flip sights (~$30.00) but don't care for the huge retention thumb nut or the fact that they are imported. |
