| Just put together 16" flat top,thinking about a Leupold 1.5-5x20 VX 3.It just for going to range,shooting 50 to 100 yards.What do you all think? |

Never heard of a Leupole, but the Leupold 1.5-5x is nice.
Personally, I'd recommend you consider any one of the popular 1-4x options from Millett, Burris, Meopta, Trijicon, Nightforce, etc. At the short ranges you plan to shoot, there is an important difference between a 1x and a 1.5x. And that difference is the ability to shoot the scope with both eyes open much like an Aimpoint or EoTech. This is something you will find very valuable, and having this ability makes your carbine a much more efficient fighting tool. |

What about MILLETT TACTICAL RIFLESCOPE/ W ILLUMINTED CIRCLE RETICLE 1-4X24?For under 300.00 Yes, that is one example of a true 1x optic. I wouldn't say it is Leupold quality, but it gets good reviews. A closer choice would be the Burris 1-4x XTR or the new kid on the block, the Trijicon TR24 1-4x. Everyone is different, but I'm telling you that a true 1x scope has the best chance of working for you up close with both eyes open. Some folks can get away with 1.1x, and some even a 1.5x (I find it hard to believe) but the lowest common denominator for all of us is as close to true 1x as possible. By the way, if you read the fine print on Leupold's website, their 1.5-5x20mm is really a 1.5-4.5x20mm. They've stolen 0.5x from you! Why not get it back on the bottom end? |
