Pulled the trigger on an Armalite AR-10.  It has a 16" barrel and I may buy a 20" replacement for it.  Although I would have liked to start with a 20" it was a good deal so I went ahead and bought it with the 16".  Now I need a scope for it.  I would guess that I would not be shooting further than 300-400 yards right now.  My spending limit will be $600.  I would prefer something illuminated for dusk and possibly night shooting if possible.  What would y'all recommend?

I would buy a Millett DMS1 1-4x24 for the 16" to handle upclose-2-300 yards.  Also buy a Millett TRS1 4-16x50 for the 20" to take full advantage of the rounds range. Both scopes in Burris PEPR mounts would be under $700. Then you really need to look at a second lower for the other upper.

This is fun, I like spending other peoples money for them. Maybe I should run in 2012!

I'd vote for you.  Better than the clowns we have now.

I can't run until 2020. If you vote for Gee223, I will buy the military all new M-16s or weapon of choice. The old ones will be sold to the general public with an instant tax stamp at replacement cost. Of course this will be a quick fix until I can throw out the 1986 ban.

If you really only want one rifle, maybe look at the Bushnell Elite 6500. 2 1/2-16 power. I believe they can be had in the illuminated variety. They may be over $600 though.
