Lots of good word on them. Check out our Industry Forum here for more info.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the sight and I'll do my best to answer them for you. Thanks!

Great scope. Easy to use and sight in. Took it to the range last week for the first time to sight in, not problem. Especially like the adjustable  intensity of the red and green dot. The only draw back for me is the flip up lens caps, they are hard to keep on.

hows it look at a 100? that magnifier enough? think i could use a diff. brand magnifier with higher magnification?

when you say intensity i assume you mean brightness, does the size of the dot change ANY when you adjust? seen a cheapy that did, on another guys gun, its actually helpful i think.

The dot is very nice IMO. The dot size is 4moa if I recall correctly. That means your dot will completely cover a target that is 4" in diameter @ 100 yds.

I don't believe the dot size changes in size when dimmed/adjusted. It's a nice dot, even at night with a tactical light.

what about magnification? can i use a mountable magnifier with higher than 2x mag?

B&H photo has them for $130 with a $25 discount if you sign up for billmelater through the end of the month.

I just bought one.

Agree with all that, but feel a little stronger about the lens caps.  They are all but useless.  Is there any solution or alternative?  Butler Creek units perhaps?

I don't know about major problems with the flip up caps on the Strikefire.  I put just a touch of Vaseline on them and they close easily and open just as easy now. The only problem I had was getting the front to close all the way. Sam suggested the Vaseline trick and it fixed it right up. They close easy and seal up nice.
For the money they are great little red dots! I would recommend them to any one on a budget. They aren't Aimpoints.. but then for $300 less you still get a great scope with a LIFETIME warranty

I've been tossing the EOtech vs. Aimpoint thing around for the last month, but finally realized either one of them would have been serious overkill for my needs. That being said, I went ahead and ordered a Vortex yesterday. If it turns out to be not as good as expected, at least I'm not  out a whole lot of $$.

well i owned most all sights. i am down to aimpoints being my main sight . i had a friend get one of these. i liked it enough. i just ordered one for a build i am working on. i think there very nice. just curious to see how it cowittness ordered it with the ar mount.

seems like nothing but good reviews.

Just picked one up second hand.  It is a 2nd Generation model.  I did A LOT of research on these and other red dots.  There were a lot of complaints of the dot either not being bright enough, or looking like a cluster of grapes.  I can tell you that it is plenty bright outside and grape cluster thing is usually user error.  So far I am very happy with it.

Vortex has a stellar warranty. That said I haven't needed to use it as of yet on any of their products that I own.

I had one, it was pretty good.  The buttons are bit mushy without much tactile feel.  The power button's position allows the red dot to be accidentally turned on a bit too easily, especially in a rifle case.  The dot isn't very bright and I had problems with washout shooting on a sunny day with snow on the ground.  The glass isn't as clear as an Aimpoint's, and there is a blue tint to the glass.

Just trying to list everything that wasn't great.  But for the money, it's a very nice little red dot.

Mine arrived in record time, and is duly mounted. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but it looks pretty good on the face of it. Hey, if it turns out to be a bomb, then I'll go the Aimpoint route.

Sorry for my ignorance, never done any night hunting.  Do you use spotlights or something to illuminate the hogs?  The Strikefire's dot isn't very bright so depending on how bright your lights are it MIGHT wash out.

Yeah usually we light up the area so that may be an issue, but I mainly want the red dot for low light scenarios. In bright light irons are fine or regular scope. I've never used a red dot sight so don't know how well they work in dark conditions

Gotcha.  In low light, red dots are far and away better than irons.  I'd recommend an Aimpoint of course, but if your budget is limited, the Strikefire is a great alternative.

I have the Vortex SFRD-AR15 and this thing is awesome (for the money)! I mounted it up to the AR15 flattop last night and became a believer. I started by mounting it then laser bore sighting it in. I was having trouble seeing the dot from the optic and the laser aimer (as they look the same through the optic) until I flipped the optic over to the green dot. Problem solved, I could now easily see the difference between the two dots. I zeroed it in and to my surprise it was off by very little from the factory. I'm guessing they dial them in before they leave the factory? The scope held zero very well and I found the red/green dots to be very bright, enough for a very sunny evening.....4:30pm. The optic also has a setting "NV" which is a "Night Vision Device Mode" even though "Pro2AinPA" said it was a no go with night vision. This optic even came with a screw in "doubler". Can I say I'm happy with it...... without a doubt. I'll be heading out this week to pick up two more for my STG556"s.

Anyone else?  We need to keep this thread going because I might pick up one also since Im stuck between a Eotech/Aimpoint and a rock in a hard place (being broke).

Where are you all getting yours from??!?!

[#26]
im confused, does the high ring provide absolute co-witness or lower one third....here's two conflicting statements from their site:

#1 Extra-high Ring Height Puts scope's bore center 37 mm (1.46 inches) above the base height. Commonly used for mounting with a Flat Top AR15, providing a lower 1/3 co-witness.

#2 included extra-high 30mm ring puts scope's bore center 37mm (1.46 inches) above the base height. Commonly used for mounting with a Flat Top AR15 providing absolute co-witness with iron sights.

WTF?
11/15/2009 5:31:23 PM EDT
[#27]
It is absoulute co witness.
11/15/2009 7:05:04 PM EDT
[#28]
Yep, if you get it WITH THE AR MOUNTING RING it is absolute co-witness. I own one with this mount (and I love it).

Opticsplanet is a good place to buy from. They ship pretty quick, and have very reasonable prices and free shipping.

I've had my Strikefire for about 4 months now and have probably put a good 800~ rounds through my rifle with it...never a hiccup.

I have one . so far it has been on my 12 guage shot gun , my cz v22 and an ar 223 carbine , soon to be mounted on my 458 socom . I dont know how bright the sun is else where but here in missouri I have not had any trouble seeing the dot red or green under the noon sun at an uncovered range. the sight is night vision compatible and it has an auto shut off in case you do accidently turn it on or bump it .  its not a problem if your hunting just reach up and tap the intensity button every couple of hours and the sight wont shut off . it holds zero good and the 2x doubler works just like every other doubler for optics including camera,s work . the view will be more narrow and a bit darker , nothing suprising there . I plan to purchase another for my turkey gun . and no its not an aimpoint with 80,000 hours battery life , but then again im an electrician not an air borne ranger.  hope this helps. one more thing It co-witnesses great with the high rings.

I have one on one of my builds, Its great, but putting it in a case will turn it on.  I have to take the battery out to prevent this, so its not on my go to rifle.  other than that its a great optic for the money.  I got mine from sportsmansguide.com  better deals can probably be found.

I just put one on my Beretta CX4 Storm, and I really like it.
I have 2 ARs, one of which has a ACOG the other has a Leupold Prismatic.
I wanted something different for the Storm and decided to give a Vortex a try. I am more than pleased, for the money it is a great little red/green dot.

Love mine. Just took it out and aimed at a streetlight and still picked up the green dot just fine. It's dark by the way.

I love the StrikeFire!

I have not had to change the batteries yet and I own 3 and it's been over a year.

At night I use a pretty bright tac light and I have to turn the dot down. A real bright dot at night distracts me when I'm checking stuff out at night. During the day the dot is PLENTY bright.

At 100 yards I plink 6"x6" plates like there's no tomorrow. With such great function you have to get yourself a LaRue to cradle that puppy. I think the StrikeFire has the best battery life in its class. The StrikeFire actually blows away the battery life of many if not most other more expensive red dot sights.

WOW!I'm very interested in one of these. What type of battery do they take, and how long does it last? Are these tough enough for a SHTF gun???Looks like a good bang for the buck.

i just received mine from opticsplanet on friday and it's awesome. i was about to grab the bushnell trophy 1x32 but i would need as riser for it, which would cost extra. the vortex which i ordered came with an ar15 mount so it paired perfectly with my front iron sight. i went to the rifle range today to test it out and it was phenomenal. i couldn't believe how well my grouping was compared to the guy with the eotech next to me (50 yd target). anyways i'm impress by this great product.

btw it uses cr2 battery.

Here are some pics.

I posted in my .458 socom build in this group about my issues with the Strikefire.

I really like the scope for the money.  I am cursing at the mount.  I may have to go
with a Larue, though since I am only 29 rounds into it it may be stabilizing.  It sure wan't
solid from the get go though.

How does a mount "stabilize" from shooting?     Get a LaRue and don't look back.

I am hoping that once the .458 had banged it around enough and I keep it tightened it will "seat" the mount on the rail.  Since I don't intend to take
it off if it locks down solidly after seating then I won't gripe much more about it.  If it never does then the Larue will be the next step.  Had I known
in advance then the Larue would have been the first step.

I was just about to order a Vortex when I got a heck of a deal on a SPOT in a Larue mount. IMO they are about equal, I like the 3 moa dot in my SPOT and the red dot in my SPOT gets allot brighter than the Vortex I looked through. With that said I am still thinking about a Vortex for another gun I'm working on.

They all come with a doubler.  It's not a separate unit like an Aimpoint magnifier.  It threads in to the back of the Strikefire.  And they all have a NV setting.
