Hi everyone, I want to buy a Aimpoint Comp M4. I am going to mount it on my M4 Flat-top Carbine. What is the Max range with this Sight? I keep reading About  3x-4x power Magnifers that people  use  this sight. I am new to this so any info will help me out. Could I just use this Aimpoint  with out the Magnifers, I just have money to buy the AIMPOINT. Any links to pictures would help so I can see how it will look on my weapon. Thanks Wedgeman

I have one new in box for a good price.

About 200 - 300 meters max range with no magnifier.  Yes, the magnifier is just an extra, it was designed to be a 1 power optic primarily.

IM sent.

I shoot at a steel plate at approx. 440 yards with a Comp M4S with about a 2 dot holdover, no issues making hits.  Dot covers the plate perfectly at that range, makes it easy.

This comes up all the time and the answer is real simple.  An Aimpoint (and the EOTech's and all non magnifying red dots with good glass) is going to be just like your irong sights except you get a fast to put on targer red dot.  Personally I can shoot a group about half the size with a red do as with irons at 100 yards when trying for best precision (i.e. I get a 2" group at 100 yrds with the red dot while 4" is about all I can manage with irons.

The question SHOULD BE based on the size of the target and distance, not just distance.  If you are trying to hit a 55 gallon drum at 200 yards you don't need magnification or a red dot.  Now make that a 1 gallon milk jug and the red dot will help you out a lot.

And if it is a 1 gallon milk jug at 400 yards, well now you will need to grt steady (going prone or rested for most of us) and 4x magnification makes the job a lot easier.

Hope this helps...

Thanks alot guys for the info, looks like I will be buying one. I plan only to shoot from 100 to 200 yards max. Will my front sight be in my field of view? My M4 has a fixed front sight Base and not a folder. Will this matter?

Don't worry about the front sight, you won't notice it while focusing on your target.

I dont even notice my front sight post, then again Im not looking for it but looking for my target I want to shoot.  I do like to turn off the aimpoint every now and then and use the irons through the optic to stay familiar with the setup in the event my optic fails, bout it.
