OK I have an AR15 for future protection - lets say we have a terrorist explode a nuke or bring in Anthrax or whatnot.  Chaos ensues.  Police are too busy to help.  Gangs on the streets and people raiding food.

What Optical set up would you get - Night Vision Scope?     Acog with Laser or Red Dot?

Interchangeable - One Night Scope and One TA31RCO or TA22R8 with a Laser perhaps?

This is going to be a general purpose Zombie gun - figure 100 yards or less I would presume.

Red dot.  Not much need for magnification under 100 yards.

This.

If my eyes accepted them, it's all I'd own.  If you don't want a dot, get a low power variable or a low power ACOG (3x or less).  Skip the lasers, unless you're talking IR for the NVD.

Thirding the red dot.  Pick whichever flavor Aimpoint you like and you'll be set for 0ish to 200+ish yards.

Cool.  Thanks guys.  Finding the which gun was easy compared to finding Optics.  Sheesh...........

I know that feeling.

After months of pouring over the options (not to mention driving my shooting buddies nuts talking to them about it), I finally decided that the Aimpoint Comp ML3 2MOA and a LaRue Poorboy magnifier is the way to go.

I like those ACOGs with the Doctor sight also.  Do they work as well as the Aimpoints?

ACOGs are definitely as robust as Aimpoints, but with fixed magnifaction you are talking about two different beasts.  I say go with the standard Arf.com answer...buy both.

Aimpoint M3, PVS 14 , best Laser you can get your hands on.....

+1

I got the exact same setup after the same months of pouring over options.  ACOG, Eotech, Leupold and aimpoint were all on the list.  Aimpoint ML3 and PoBoy won out and i am thrilled

Good combination.  I put a troy folding iron sight under the PoBoy.

"send the bill to acman145ACP"

Yeah no kidding.  Holy crap!

I think I will go the Aimpoint PoBoy route with a Larou mount.

Any "reasonable" alternatives for night vision scope - you guys use them at all?

Lets say you have a band of 8 or 10 guys coming at your place in the hills at night armed but they don't have night vision and you do.............

do red dots work after a nuclear attack?

I'll let you know whether or not it works after there's a nuclear attack, provided I'm not vaporized.

Is your car structurally reinforced enough to withstand the impact of a satellite whose orbit has degraded and reentered the atmosphere?

I actually believe the answer to this questions is "yes" because the electronics (capacitors?) don't hold enough electric charge to blow after an EMP.
