I have been holding out for the EOTech XPS3 for awhile now but I am now looking into several other options. I don't see much on the Trijicon Reflex and was wondering if it is a good sight in comparison. If you have any pictures of one mounted feel free to post it with any comments  .

I had one for a while and it was a really great sight, most of the time. It does not do well when looking from a darkened area to a brightly lit area if the background is light in color or when using a weapon mounted light if the background is lightly colored. There is an adjustable polarizing filter that is supposed to mitigate this problem and it helps, to some degree, basically by allowing you to adjust the amount of light that gets transmitted through the lens, allowing better contrast. Problem is, it's not exactly quick. So far, I think the best reflex sights available are those made by Aimpoint, followed closely by the Eotech and then a few others. The newer models of Trijicon's reflex are supposed to address some of the issues, but that's what they said about the last "new' model. Of course, the sight I had was the 4 MOA model, so maybe the chevron or triangle reticles are easier to acquire in less than ideal light conditions. That is a lot of good info, thank you. I love my ACOG and like that it does not require batteries, so I figured why not look into the Reflex. Sounds like the polarizing filter is a must. When you say not as fast, is that due to the issues with picking up the dot on light backgrounds / inside to outside areas?
Anyone have experiece with the polarizing filter on a Reflex? |

The new RX30 is *much* better than the earlier Reflex versions, IMHO. Huge FOV through the 42mm objective, tritium is much brighter, fiber optics are more efficient so reticle washout is still possible but you have to really work at it now so polarizing filter not needed, 6.5moa dot usable out to 300m (my own tests).

| The RX30 just looks really big; possibly the new RX09 with a polarizing filter will work. It also has a spot to add in a light stick, not that I like that idea all that much. I don't see why they could not put a fiber optic on top like the ACOGs (I know the 30 has it, but it is just too big for me). |

They are good sight for not using any batteries but they are not my favorite sight on the market they washout to much for me. I like the EoTech and Aimpoint more. We sale the RX’s also.

I have one on a Bushy M4A3 (I know, pics to come). The filter IS a must but the real trick for me was never looking at the triangle. instead I looked at the target and my eye naturally placed the triangle on the target regardless of how faint it was. You know what your target looks like when you're looking at it without the sight, so when you place the triangle on the target it automatically stands out. this may not work so great for precision work but at CQB ranges you've got nothing to worry about.
Biggest pro? Your sight will work long after the Terminators have dropped an EMP on the Resistance! |

Paul, with the filter on did the site work satisfactory in all conditions for you? Would you buy it again and/or consider it to be close to an aimpoint or eotech? Thanks, and I would like to see how it looks mounted on a flatop! |

I have both the RX30 and the 12moa triangle model. Have never had any issues with them, other than the "they suck when used indoors" wash-out problem. The RX30 has a huge FOV and a large 6moa dot, making it just the ticket for use out to the end of the driveway. Mine is mounted to my designated home-defense rifle. |

So the washout is indoors and not outdoors? I would have thought outdoors would have created more of a problem... interesting. Is the 12 moa triangle seem to big at 100+ for you? The washout occurs indoors or similar situations where you are in a shaded area and looking out towards a bright area. I've never experienced the problem outdoors. The fiber optic makes the reticle quite bright outdoors. JMHO, the 6 moa dot is best for 75 yards and under. Definately not the dot size you want for deliberate marksmanship at longer ranges. For that purpose, I like the 12 moa triangle of the older Reflex II model; using the tip as the aiming point obviously. Wish they made the RX30 with one.... However, I rarley if ever shoot from a dark room to a very bright area. I can't think of a situation that the Reflex plus the filter plus BUIS can't handle. Mabey someone else can think of one. I have the newer RX30 as well as an older Reflex II, three Aimpoint T-1's, one Aimpoint H-1, two aimpoint ML3's, and two ACOG's and I can say for HD or any other "up close and personal" work the RX30 rocks. It doesn't have any washout problems indoors (not like the Reflex II) with the 42 mm lense picking the dot up takes a split second and I never have to worry if it is on and working, day or night.

No need for a polarized filter? My issue is I would like a site good for 300 and in (I know that shorty never sees that ). Does the arms mount allow for a lower 1/3 co-witness?

I own an RX30 and I am going to disagree about the washout problem. It certainly still exists but it is less of a problem than the prior models. The red dot on mine disappears the worst when using a weapon light but will also get quite dim in other indoor situations. I don't stress too much over it and figure that my back up iron sights can be used for the infrequent times when the dot would wash out. It is super bright in any outdoor situation and is probably the fastest sight to get on target that I have ever used. I put mine on my suppressed 9mm shorty AR and really enjoy it. I did not like the large 6.5moa dot on my regular AR as I couldn't keep up the accuracy with longer shots. For the shorter range 9mm it is perfect.
And yes, the ARMS mount provides a lower 1/3 cowitness. |
