A few months ago I picked up a EOTech 512 and quickly mounted that bad boy in my AR. This past weekend I got her zero'd pretty well at 50 yards and shooting about 1 MOA little over maybe. My question actually comes up regarding a magnifier. It's two questions actually:
First, On budget constraints and not wanting to spend 300-600 dollars on something like this, are the "knock off's and such that i've found for 100-150 bucks at gun shows and stuff decent. I mean i'm not currently using this is any sort of daily carry duty rig, it's a HD rifle, for the most part, but would like to sometimes be able to shoot it out and some longer distances at the range etc. How do these hold up and what's the quality like. Second, this is hearsay so take it as that. Cop buddy of mine was telling me about another officers EOTech with the flip to side mounts on the magnifier, and how when he was not using them they sort "flopped" around and were mostly in the way. Has that been anybody's experience, or is he talking out his ass etc. Most likely the optic would come completely off when not actively being used, but i'd like to know a bit more before I go spending any money on it at all... |

Short answer to your 2nd question is yes, it flops around a bit because of the Samson FTS mount. It just flips out of the way and held there by a single spring. Plus it adds weight to the rifle and depending on which magnifier you get, it's usually about 1 lb. when you consider both the mount and magnifier.
For the clone, you should search for Mako and read up on that thread for an informed decision. |

that looks exactly like the ones I have been seeing at the gun shows etc. I never could get a brand name off of them though.
One new question though after ready the mako thread pointed out to me, and i'll try and post pics tonight of my baby to explain a bit better but. Is there room for a eotech, the magnifier, and a BUIS of some sort all on the flat top upper. I have an RRA Entry Tac (removed "Tactical carry handle) with a Surefire quad rail (not sure of exact model). The rail actually sits lower than the flat top and i believe mounting the eotech to it would make it so I couldn't see through the glass, especially not with a magnifier. I could be wrong, hence the pics later on. Has anybody been able to get all three items on the flat top and working well? |
