Hey everyone.

AR I want to get is the Stag Model 1. At some point I will probably want to put a scope on this AR (on the flat top not the handle). Since this model has standard iron sights (front sight does not flip down) would I be able to use the scope on this gun? I mean, will I have issues of the front sight blocking my view through the scope?

I know if a fix to this. Get rid of the model 1 gas block and replace it with a gas block with a rail. Get flip up front and possibly rear sights.

Since I would rather be able to use the carry handle for iron sights, I would keep the scope somewhere in my pack or tac-vest in a hard shell container with padding.

My question again is... Can I use a scope on the Stag Model 1 (scope not mounted on carry handle) without having to replace the front sights with flip down ones? If not, is there a riser or some other bracket that will raise the scope to let me use it?

Thanks a ton!!

You don't have a problem with the sight picture in the scope being taken up by the forward sight?

In that case, that pretty much answers my question...

Does anyone out there have problems doing what I want to do?

You cant see the front sight, The magnification just kinda voids it out.....

Ah ok, so the scope focuses past it.

Very cool thanks!!

Some people like to co-witness.

I ditched my carry handle and went with an ACOG primary and Troy rear BUIS.  There is a slight out-of-focus ghost of the front sight if I focus on it.  Usually I don’t even notice it for I am looking way past my front post.

This is interesting

As others have said, you will not even notice the front sight.  Invest in a quality scope mount, though!  It will be worth the investment.

+1 on quality products, I learned the hard way by putting a cheap scope on.  The elevation dials popped off while shooting or rather broke off.  That was the second time I bought a cheap scope and mount to "save money".  Since then I've bought two Trijicon ACOG's and three EOTECHs.  It's a one time purchase, at least per gun.

I think the rule-of-thumb is that of magnifications of 3X and above, the front sight will be completely invisible.  Below 3X, the front sight will be a shadow becoming cyrstal clear at 1X.
The "normal" scope mount height for a flat top AR is 1.40 inches above the rail.  That happens to be the height of the iron sights, so if the iron sights are comfortable, the optic will be as well.
Accordingly, at that height, the front sight is physically dead center in the optic field-of-view.  You just can't see it with any significant magnification.

As noted, you can't see it with any magnification.  Even with a 1x red dot, like an Aimpoint, you get used to it.

You'll never see the FSP homie!!

thats not true... its an annoying blur up to 4X power.  if i were you i'd go with a tactical 3-9x40 like the larue accupoint or a leupold, or hell, even a nice nikon.  put it in a larue spr mount.  when you raise the power to 5x and up, the fsp will disappear.

everyone here is misleading the poor guy without any real experience.  i just went up from a 4x acog because the blur was annoying. i switched to the accupoint and havent looked back

I have the BSA Sweet .223 6x18x40 on my carbine during prairie dog season and the scope almost touches the FSP... Still nothing seen in the way

I just put a Millet DMS-1 1x4 scope on my colt and the FSB is clear even at 1x, anything past that and it disappears completely.

Just to make sure I wasn't mistating something, I got out the AR this morning to check.  With a Leupold Mk IV 3-9X set on 3X, and with a standard front sight, the front sight is absolutely invisible in bright sunlight, looking at a bright white background (neighbor's car) there is no hint of the front sight in the scope field of view.  No shadow, no nothing.  I can't go any lower than that because the scope wont allow.  I can't speak for all 3X scopes, but for this configuration there is no issue with FS visibility at 3X.  None.
