| I want to get a target scope for my M4 rifle. Is 6.5-20 magnification too much scope for target shooting at 100-200 yards? What's your opinion. |

For target shooting, no. Target shooters like high powered scopes, they allow a more precise point of aim. Targets don't move so you don't have to worry about tracking your quarry and issues that a high powered scope might give you with field of view. For any other use that is far to much power but for target shooting it is fine. I can shoot sub moa fairly easy with my 3 power CQ/T but for target shooting I use a 4.5-14x scope. |
| I agree. That is not too much for target shooting. I find 9X simply adequate at 100 and at 200 20X is pretty much ideal. This is just target shooting though. Meaning shpoting a 1" group is a bad group that is too large or you have created a poor load. IMO unless you have 20/15 type vision you wont be able to get all the capability of your rifle at even 100 yards, much less 200 with a 1-4X scope. |

I have a 3-9x40 and I wish I had more magnification for well past 100 yds.
Sure you could hit a human size target at that range with a 3-9, but I couldn't expect anything close to a 'fine degree of accuracy'. Maybe I just suck, but I'm all over the place without more magnification. |
