I just picked up an Aimpoint ML2 and GG&G mount this weekend (at 25% off, nice) but the place was out of stock on the black rubber boot.  is that something i need or should have?  this is for a hobby gun that sees range time and has been to one class so far and will be seeing another at the end of june

i did a search on "Aimpoint rubber" and came up empty

thanks in advance

Mike

No, you don't need one.  It does offer an extra level of protection to the Aimpoint but it is not needed.  It's all personal preference.  I prefer to not have one.

You can't say you got an Aimpoint for 25% off and not tell people where you go it!!!!!!!!!!! Spill the beans already.

my rubber cover never leaves the range bag.  i used it @ first, but it's kind of a novelty item i think.  it probably would be better to drop your rifle scope down WITH the cover on than without, but i don't plan on trying either...

if ya want one:  click here $12 shipped from ebay

I only use the rubber cover to keep CLP from splashing on the lens while cleaning, I dont have the flip caps.

I dont see how the rubber cover can protect it from anything other than scratching the finish...it doesnt even seem to fit right unless your mounting ring has a full bottom half and then the top is in two pieces...otherwise either the top or side bulges will just be floppy because there is no ring to support there...I only got one in FDE to match the furniture...

The first time I took my carbine in the rain for a class, the rubber cover started discoloring. I took it off and havent had a problem.

I think people only use the colored ones so it matches if they have a paint job on their rifle, otherwise its pointless

I like mine to keep the finish on the scope looking good. It's just like those rubber things I put on my Blackberry to keep it from getting scratched. Do I need it, no. Do I like to have things that don't look beat up, yes. Personal preference.
