Anyone familiar with any of their stuff.... I'm sure it's not YHM but overall how is it?

It depends on what you're looking for.  For non-critical stuff like Rails or VFG's - I think they're fine.  For BUIS or other potentially make or break or items - I would say you get what you pay for and better off to avoid them.

thats mainly what I'm looking for is a reliable, cost efficient rail/handguard, without dishing out 300 or 400 dollars, possibly a foregrip. In LE but my agency doesn't buy our rifles, or equip them, and of course not well paid... I shelled out the money for a Colt A2, but when it comes to equipping it, I may have to skim a bit...

For a duty weapon, I'd save up and get something else.

Even when it comes to the foregrip??? It's gotta be better than the standard handguard still right?

It would be nice if the Dept. would purchase/equip these, however even the SRT is responsible for their own weapons beyond the issue glock/shotgun

I know that I've committed ARCOM heresy by putting a UTG rail and VFG on my LMT.  In retrocpect I wish I had waited to put an MI or a DD rail on the rifle - but the day I bought the gun, they only had the UTG rails and I was impaitent.

But in practice - the UTG rails have been rock solid and I have no complaints.

If they've been good then what makes you wish you'd gone with DD or MI?? Are the UTG Free floating? If not then that may break the deal anyway.

Friends don't let friends buy UTG.  If it's going on a serious social rifle like your duty rig, don't skimp.  If you're trying to save a few bucks get the Magpul MOE handguards or the two piece rail from Midwest Industries.

Please dont put Airsft crap o your duty weapon. If you just need a rail for a VFG and a light, then the MagPul Moe rail can be had under $50. You can place the rails anywhere you want on it. If you want Free Float, then go with a Midwest Ind. FF. They can be had for around $175. The Troy rail goes for $220. Either of these FF rails willl NOT require you to remove your FSB or barrel. You will have to cut off the delta ring thou.

Oh, and yes I run a MI FF rail on my Duty Weapon and its be rock solid since day one.

To be honest.... primarily for the "I don't want to be scorned by ARFCOM" factor.  When I got the LMT, I had no idea of the heirarchy of acceptable parts nor did I know that UTG was known only as an airsoft provider.  It was being sold in a reputable store that sells a lot of tactical gear and they have everything from the most expensive DD and Troy stuff down to the UTG and CAA brands.  As i said, had I known the disdain a particular brand was held in - I might have waited.

But the reality is the UTG rail has been rock solid, looks good and the accuracy of the rifle hasn't seem to be affected in the slightest because of it.  I'd bet that if I had covered up the UTG logo on the rail and showed the gun to another ARFCOMER - they'd universally say "Sweet gun"!

Seriously, I'm not trying to make a pitch for UTG as I have no dog in that fight - but for those saying they'd never have their rail on a duty rifle, why?  What is going to fail on a metal rail that would make you not use it?  Do any of you naysayers have any personal experience with the product?  Again, if I took the logo off, most of you would have no idea.

Why would you care what other ARFCOMER'S thought of your rail, or your gun? If you want to run UTG, go ahead... its your gun, you paid for it. I can't understand why you give a shit what people think of your rail? Anyway. The fact aout UTG is they are DBA, AKA, LEEPERS. LEEPERS is one of the top chicom cloners for the airsoft people.

This argument can go on forever here. The bottom line is its your gun and if your happy with your rail system, and it works for you, then by all means run it. However since the MOE is out, I doubt many people will still run UTG crap.

I don't really care what other's think.  It was just an "in hindsight" thought based on the amount of scorn here.  Right or wrong, I do put a fair amount of stock into what many of the posters recommend here on this forum when I ask for advice.  However, I am finding as I get more familiar with this place, that a discerning person has to sometimes differentiate between legit advice based on experience and 1st hand knowledge with a particular product vs the bravado tacticool poseurs who like to pound the "brand name" drum with no real comparison experience to back it up.

I have used the UTG rail system in the past. It locked in solid and never moved until the day I took it off that rifle and put a Surefire rail system on that gun. That being said, I probably wouldn't buy another one. They are chinese made and from what I've heard are not always of the best consistency are fas as being in spec goes. They are made of steel so they are fairly heavy. I've also heard that the metal they are made of is very soft, but again, I never dropped my gun on the handguard or used it in a situation where I would find that out. With all of that being said, if I were you, I would look into the Surefire rail systems. I loved mine before I sold that rifle to pay for some unforseen bills. The Surefire rails are reasonably priced. I think I paid $150 for mine.
