I just searched and read the 3-4 posts about the Eotech 557 and I ended up ordering one and then I found the post about how it is was made for a 14.5 barrel and with a 16 inch barrel it is off by a few inches. I also ordered a magnifier with it, Did I make a mistake? I have tried to do a search but nothing comes up on here.

Please clarify your question. Are you concerned about the BDC not lining up with your ammo and barrel length?  No matter the scope (some ACOGs have BDCs also), you still have to shoot it and work out where your POA/POI will be.  Once you know that, you can use the BDC dots as a relative aiming point.
I shoot the 557 and 4x combo in 3-gun and I love it.  Heavy and expensive but more positives than negatives.

My question is did I make a mistake buying this scope because I have a 16 inch upper and I want to make sure I am not wasting money

What are your intended uses for your rifle?  Competition, plinking, classes and self-defense?  The 557 and 4x would best be served on an upper that you would use for shooting beyond 200yds.  Otherwise, a 512 or 516 with 3x magnifier would be a more economical and lighter setup.

it will be for self defense and tactical classes. I went with the 512 and magnifier.

Good deal. You probably already heard this but just in case...
if you get the 512 and the magnifier, look for a riser or the height alignment between the EOTech and magnifier will be slightly off. It will work but you'll see a shadow without a riser for the EOTech.

I have got the 557 with a eotech 3x and I like it . I Think it is a accurate set up on my
RR with a 16" barrel.I think you would be happy.
