Long time browser, first time poster.
I have one AR with an Eotch. I like it. Second AR gets something else. S&W MP15 I have been looking at the ACOG with the DOC dot. On paper it makes sense. Is it really practical, or just another 400 bucks? I will primarily use this piece for coyote and fun. (so, shots from 30 to 200 yards are the norm) I like nice stuff, so price is not first concern (I do not waste $$ though). In case of the end of the world I want something reliable too. (who knows the future). So, what you guys think? Also, what QR mount do you recommend. Wags |

Trijicon will soon have a TA31RMR, with their new ruggedized red dot sight, that'll be perfect for SHTF since the Docter sight isn't particularly robust, making it necessary to get the wing mount.
If you're going to use it for coyotes and don't think you'll be in the CQB confrontation one day, then the TA01 is more than adequate, I'd go to a higher power scope myself. Re: QD mounts, as much I'm not a fan of his dramas and manners, LaRue mounts. Until ARMS new adjustable mount becomes available, that'd be my choice. That or just use the excellent TA51 mount that comes with the TA31DOC and wait for something better. |

Never know I live in the middle of no where, and it is available for instant action...along with the FN shotgun. With that being said...it is handy to shoot at running dogs with a dot. The eotech works well for that. Any date on the RMR? Recticle options? $$? Thanks Wags |

Dunno the ETA on the RMR, or if I'd get one for that matter, I'm too fond of the Micro T1 to go for any open light source, single window mini red dot sights, but since I'm a big Trijicon fan, one can never tell I use the Docter sight on my TA31DOC as a backup sight, I prefer to practice using BAC of the magnified scope, though it is slower than a red dot. When using the red dot I have to rethink the hold over, I guess more practice will solve that problem. |

It's very practical and useful on a social gun, but for coyote shooting, I don't think I'd bother with it. The Doc, IMHO is an "emergency sight," for use in reflexive fire situations, when a hostile enemy surprises you. So, unless you expect were-yotes to pop up with a strong desire to eat you at close ranges, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Now, if you plan to use the rifle for HD and/or SHTF and are going to train those kinds of scenarios with it, then it could be a very useful addition. HTH, ~Augee |
