So I just picked up a ml3 and going through the guide the diagram shows a eye protection cover/lens,the drawing looks like it's a removable lens cover like a camera would have.
My question is,is this transparent cover removable? the diagram makes it look to be but mine doesn't seem to..well even be there. There is a threaded (on the inside) tube exposed but nothing turns as the guide seems to suggest.
I'd rather not damage what's left of my vision if I'm missing a piece.

Any help???

TWAL,
The item you describe from the manual is an accessory item you can purchase if you are not using flip covers.  It is a simple rubber ring that goes around the outside edge of the tube on the occular side of the sight.  You don't need it, especially if you place the ML3 as far forward on the upper receiver as possible.  Thus, your eye socket should never make contact with that aluminum tube of the sight during recoil.

For what it is worth the rubber eye protection ring is standard on the Aimpoint 3X magnifier and is recommended as a shooter will typically have their eye closer to the sight.

Hope this clarify things.
