| Anyone know what is the more predominant optics that our Spec Ops guys are using on their carbines? Not so much interested in the sniper optics as I am what their preference is between the Aimpoint and the Eotech for CQB. Any idea if there is a preference that is specific to the branch (i,e, SEALs, ODA or USAF STS) or is it individual preference what optics they carry into battle? |

Varies unit to unit. No such variance allowed in the USAF. What you get is what you get. Security Forces typically get M4s with M68s but the (most of) the rest of the AF gets plain Jane M16A2s with irons. The ST guys (CCT and PJ) will be quite different than your typical AF unit. There is variance allowed in ST units but typically you will see either Aimpoint, EoTech or ACOG on a standard M4. Depending on your unit you might see different options available. |

When searching through the mil photos on web there are an abundance of M4s with Aimpoint M68s in the sandbox. I haven't seen any Eotechs in my searches. While not as predominate, I can tell you I have actually seen with my own two eyes Eotechs being used in Iraq as an issued item. |

Yeah, the USAF ST guys (and other SOCOM operators) are what was asking about. I have a good friend in one of the ST Sqs at Bragg (Pope). I'll have to ask him what his setup is. |

V12 what type of light mount is that? looks like it mounts to the barrel? thanks for you service. It's a barrel mount. It's been so long I don't remember what the brand was but it wasn't anything fancy. We didn't get the rails or anything until we were in country and I had to buy my own stuff. It's not pretty and by no means is it the best way to mount a light, but it didn't affect real world accuracy. The eotech is the AA nightvision compatible model. |
