Any feedback on NCstar? Just want something to plink with untill I save enough money to get an Eotech or ACOG. I would be looking at their ACOG clone and Red dot. I did a search but didn't find anything.

I'm surprised the first post wasn't telling me I'm an idiot. I checked on another board and it basically said don't waste your money BUT I'm not worried the Chinese are invading and I'm not worried that the prairie dog's will fight back. As long as it keeps a zero I will be happy.

My experience has been that it is less than dependable, like Leapers.  Just my opinion.

TRASH.

You can waste $100 on chinese garbage, or you can buy a Bushnell Elite 3200 starting in the $179 area, and be happy for years.

Buy once, cry once.  (crying over a $200 scope   )

And no, you're not an idiot.   If you buy one, THEN you'd be an idiot.

Your main criteria (as long as it holds zero) is not guaranteed with a $100 chinese scope. You are gambling right out of the gate.

I would hold out for something better than ncstar. Surf around for some used scopes on evilbay if your really hard up for cash. Often used scopes will come with rings to saving you some dough. I have not heard good things about ncstar. They have nikon prostaff scopes on evilbay for less than $100 reconditioned or used. Why buy junk?

They just aren't really in the realm of 'decent'. I have two,  I'm ashamed to say ... one went back in the box (been there ever since) and the other is on a bird plinker zeroed in at the bird feeders @ aprox 40'. I have to defend my wife's bird seed from the black birds.

I've found that if you change any settings and try to return to the previous setting ... you're SOL and have to re-zero all over again. That's why it's on a .22

Check this scope out ... $162.09 Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40. I have this scope on my Bushmaster Varminter and it's very nice.

BigJimFish is giving excellent advice. Not long ago I read that most reconditioned products actually have MORE quality controll testing than the same item straight off the assembly line. I hope you understand my meaning. Evidently after the item is reconditioned it is more than thoroughly tested before it leaves (they don't want it coming back again).

For plinking - and if you know it's not going to be a serious optic - you can buy a cheap scope if that's all your budget allows. Some are better than others though, so it depends on which model you're looking at. Obviously buy the best you can, but if you want something cheap to tide you over until you can afford better - go for it.

I have an NC star holo sight on my ar pistol. 0ver 600 rounds of 223 and 1,000 or so of .22 fired with no issues and no loss of Zero

YMMV

Does your Bushinell have a stamp saying 'Made in China'? Mine does.

Mine came w/ my AR.  Zeroed it in and shot about 1,000 rds with it with no loss of zero.  Good for short range plinking, but as others have said it's not a serious optic.

I bought a decent M4 clone from Marsh Lerner @ Primary Arms (see EE).
IMHO, inexpensive but not cheap.

Just bought the new this year NCstar tactical 9x model.  Solidly mounts to the gun, no issues there.  The locking nut on the side I hear is a bit weak and will rattle off over tim so a bit of locktite is very helpful.  The illuminated reticle is annoyingly bright and easily seen from the business side so if your looking to shoot at night I'd recommend something else.

I'm shooting it Tuesday so I'll fill ya in more then.

Or you waste a ton of money in ammo trying to center up the sight only to find it looses zero after each adjustment. Use iron sights and save the cash for a good brand, try to find a used one for extra savings.

I would not buy a Bushnell, but If I did, yes, it WOULD likely be be Made in China.

It's not JUST where, and by whom it was made... It's about method of construction,
materials, as dictated by the Contracting entity.  Bushnell also has a good warranty,
and representation in the states, and cares about this reputation.  Bushnell also
happens to PAY the chinese Gov't factories handsomely to do it their way, and
grind/coat the glass to a specification THEY set, etc.

Since No-one is paying the Chinese Gov't factory (Leapers/NCStar/BEC/Barska/etc
to make these scopes to a certain spec, they do it however is cheapest. Friction fit, multi-
piece potmetal tubes, sloppy, dirty assembly practices and facilities, plastic and adhesives
where threaded metal coupling should occur,  etc.

Stay away from the Green ringed windriver series (Versus GOLD), and you'd have been OK.
