I'm new to the AR world I mounted my scope to my AR like pic show's and I'm wondering if this is ok or is there another route I should take. Thanks

It doesn't get much worse than that.    Two major violations;

1. Never mount a scope across two separate components; in this case the receiver & the railed handguard..

2.  Never, ever mount any optic on a non free-floating rail.  These types of rails will not hold a zero.

Check out this thread for proper scope mounting on an AR;

There's no reason your scope can't be mounted on the receiver (and ONLY on the receiver), as it should be.  Unless you have a monolithic upper, mounting it on the receiver is the way to go.

Your rings look too low as well.
