What do you all think of the back up iron sights?  I have one, but it seems that the back up irons are off a little.  Vertically they seem to be right on, but horizontally they seem to be slightly off...

You can move the front blade right or left to adjust windage. You wont get tiny little groups but its plenty for chest shots out to 100m, for me anyways.

You can actually use them effectively that far?

I've always heard that they are pointless.

Well dont get me wrong, if you had to you can hit man size targets that far, maybe not a 12" x 12" piece a paper at the range.

Thank you for the replies; I'll try to move the front one a little.

I don't see the need/point for them.  At the ranges that you'd be able to hit with them, you'd probably be better off point shooting, or shooting of the front sight.  Much quicker, too.

I replaced both of mine with MRDs.

That said, the front sight blade only looks like it's off.  Check again, it's actually right on the centerline, it just looks like it's been drifted to the side because of the machining of the housing.

I probably won't ever have a use for them, but I would like to make sure they are aligned properly.

When I aim at something with the iron sights and then look at it through the scope I can see that the irons are off (the scope IS adjusted properly); I'm not justifying this by how the iron sights look cosmetically.

Okey dokes.

It's a common complaint that the front sight seems off in its dovetail, but it does come centered from the factory.  It just looks like it's off at first glance.  Now, if you intend to drift it to match your zero, that's a different matter.

I'll take this time to go ahead and strongly suggest a JPoint or Trijicon Red Dot or Doctor for it, though, hands down my favorite sighting system.

Enjoy the glass!

Augee,

Thanks for the reply.  When I get a chance I'll take another look at it.  Someone said that it could be adjusted? - I don't have it with me to mess with; I'm up at school.
