| I just received my frist AR a 20" DPMS flat top. I have a 4.5x14x50 Leupold will this scope work or will it be too high? What mounts would work Thanks |

I'd shoot for a mounting system that would place the centerline of the scope 1.40 inchs above the rail. I believe that would allow clearance of the 50 mm objective lens and would put the centerline at the same height above the rail as standard AR iron sights. I use conventional rings of that height, but if money isn't too big an issue, the cantalevered mounts by folks like LaRue are popular. The scope centerline height is published by the manufacturer, but is defined differently--some like Leupold define it as the height from the rail to the centerline of the scope and call this "ultra high" or "super high" or whatever. Other like Burris define their height as the distance from the rail to the lower edge of the lower ring. The radius of the scope barrel has to be added to the scope height to get the true centerline height. I believe LaRue defines their height directly like Leupold but don't know for sure. |
