After lurking here for quite some time, I finally bit the bullet and got an AR! First of all, this is a great resource. I thank all the posters for the great info here! Here is my issue: I've got an Armalite 15A4C with the front and rear Troy sight combo from Larue, as well as an EOTech 512 w/ LaRue Tactical QD Mount LT110. The plan was to co-witness the sights in the lower 3rd of the EOTech. No problems with the EOTech and the Larue mount. They work great, and I zeroed it at 50 yds with no problem. I then flipped up the Troy sights. The rear is in the most rearward slot, and is at the right height. I didn't realize it at first, but the rail that the front sight is mounted to (the stock gas block) is lower. I wrongly assumed that they would be the same height and that everything would line up fine. It is so low that you can't see it throught the EOTech when looking through the rear sight. So, I bought the lowest riser I could find (the YHM mini riser [.5 in]). This is so high that I can't zero the sight. I can't find a ~.3 in riser for the gas block (or anything lower than .5 in), and I wasn't planning on replacing the handguard with a railed version (I realized quickly that there is way to much slop in the stock handguard to mount a rail and sight to it). Thoughts?? Thanks in advance!! |

I have the YHM and it works great. The MI would be cool cause it looks more like the Troy, but I've never used one before, you can find the YHM for $65 at Rainier Arms or the MI just about anywhere for $80. Or else get a 9-10" free-floating hand guard, turn your FSB into a low-profile gas block with a dremel, and mount the troy to the rail system. I'd recommend looking at MI, Larue, Daniels Defense, or YHM. I have the YHM in 10", but I wish I spent the extra and got one of the other rails. |
