the Bartholomew_Roberts Big ACOG BDC Chart  says that the TA31F is set for 14.5" barrel with 62gr bullet. Is this true? How do you guys think a 1/9 twist 14.5 barrel would do as far as the BDC is concerned? thank you

realistically is there any reason for a civi to get a TA31RCO type reticle? What exactly is it for?

the TA31F and the TA31RCO M4 have the same reticle and BDC.. only difference is the M4 has the lines on the side.. and as for 1/9 twist that will make no difference at all.. the only difference it will make is when you try to shoot 77gr rounds.. some 1/9's will do it and some wont.. from what I have read on here pretty much everyones 1/9 twist will shoot at least 75gr rounds.. mine does it fine.. my best groups where with 75gr match in my Armalite 16" HBAR 10 shot groups at 100yds .75" and its not even a match barrel.. with M855 I get about 1" groups.. on a day with less wind I can get almost submoa..

I really never shoot past 800 yards tho so I only need 62gr.. on a good day you can shoot 800 yards with 60gr bullets.. anyway but BDC system on the ACOG works like non other... it is pretty much right on as long as you have it set up right.. My friend in the Army uses an ACOG (dont they all) and he can shoot 8" groups at 800 yards..

I have heard a few people begin their questions with those highlighted words lately.

the reason I started my question like that is because I heard that the mil lines on the RCO reticle is used to direct fire or something like that.

The horizontal mil scale has several applications, one of them being to measure distance when calling for and directing indirect fire and CAS.  They can also be used to measure distance for other purposes as well.  Whether or not it serves a purpose for YOU and are worth the extera $ is something only YOU can decide.

Yes, just in bigger increments.
