Not to start a flame war, but had a few basic questions:

Currently I have a Midwest Industries Emergency Rear Sight on my Stag M2 with a fixed front sight. While talking to some other guys at the range who have different setups, they mentioned to look into a Troy or LaRue BUIS.

Is there really a difference or any reason why to go with one or the other (or any other kind of rear sight?) I am looking to eventually co-witness an EoTech or Aimpoint and like to shoot with irons to about 300 yards.

Also, I forgot to ask, but what is the name/designation of the forward mounted laser system which noone can see but the person looking through the optics behind the rifle?

Thanks for the help...

Your MI is fine.

Not if your planning on a reflex sight.

That would be the Aimpoint, or "red dot" sight.

Thanks, personally I didn't think there was a big difference but I am not an expert so I figured Id ask.

As far as the IR item, I know that it wasnt an Aimpoint as this was mounted on the front (behind the gasblock) and I was told was used to send out an IR beam that the target wouldnt be able to see and was an illuminator - is that nightvision?

Then your probley talking about a PEQ-2 which is expensive as hell and really no use unless you have NV goggles.

I think that's what it is.

Ironically, my father in law has a set of NV goggles and I was planning on purchasing a NV ready EoTech. How would this all work together? From the looks of it, 1 is a beam which only NV can see, and the other is the equilavent of a highpowered flashlight that only NV can see.

Thanks for all your help Matthews

MI's products are fine, but they aren't quite as tacticool and revered as other brands.

I am a brand whore myself, Daniel Defense, Larue, and Magpul adorning my black rifle.  However, when it comes down to it, cheaper brands do 90% of the same thing at 50% the cost, so don't sweat it.
