Alright, so I'm going to build a lightweight and want to pick sights on that basis.  I already know that getting an A3 upper and putting a detachable carry handle on is a waste of weight.

Options:
1-A2 with normal FSB
2-A2 with flip-up front sights on railed FSB
3-Flip-up sights on rails both front and rear
4-Non-magnifying reflex/red-dot on rail with low-profile FSB

Input appreciated.

Consider the LaRue rears, or the YHM Lighter fixed ones... otherwise rear flip-up will work (TROY, ARMS, MI, PRI)

As for the front - A2 isn't a bad choice at all, although YHM, PRI make good flip-up units that are still pretty light.

A2 w/normal FSB.

However, I have to say, I really really like my A1 w/normal fsb with a Bushmaster superlite barrel. Set and forget the sights.  I don't need to be jacking with elevation settings on a 16" carbine anyway.  50yd zero and I'm good to go.

Opinions will vary, but I built a lightweight earlier this year and elected to forego irons altogether and just put an Aimpoint T-1 on it.

If you want just irons on a lightweight I'd propose an A1 receiver with a standard FSB.
