Guys, I am running a TA11 ACOG with a TA-51 mount on an LMT CQB AR. I am looking for a low BUIS that will fit underneath the ACOG and fully deploy without smacking into the ACOG when it opens (if it is a flip up). Who makes a nice low BUIS (front and rear sights)? Note--they do not have to be flip up sights either--fixed is fine so long as it is nice and low. |
| You would not be able to use it PERIOD, even with the ACOG removed, as your head wont get that low unless you are some kind of lepper with no cheek bone. How did you come up with this ridiculous idea for a BUIS? Since you already own the TA11 and mount you should already be able to try it and see that your eye wont get any lower than the scope is already mounted. You should also be able to see it wont work with any fron tsight made (becasue those would also be too low for humans to use). |

here are some popular buis heights: ARMS 40 - 0.950" folded YHM-9680 - 0.840" folded Matech - 0.75" folded MI ERS - 0.750" folded GG&G MAD - 0.625" folded ARMS 40L - 0.610" folded Troy - 0.460" folded MI MCTAR-SPLP - .4375" folded KAC 300m - 0.315" folded i don't have any fixed heights around. |

Ummm--the ACOG can come off, mall ninjas. Twist two knobs which should only be one quarter turn past hand tight. ACOGs do fail from time to time--as I witnessed in Iraq. Funny how many judgemental studs there are on the AR forums. I would love to see some of you guys on the range or running on a track. Bunch of .25 MOA shooters and 6 minute milers I am betting. More like 50 year old, 300 pound louts who can't even assume a prone position....unless they trip and fall. |
.................and their off.......................Good luck w/ your venture here on Arfcom. Im guessing itll be a SHORT one.

Is he looking in through my windows? ![]() BTW. . .I would agree with you. I would want a back up sight. Can someone explain why I don't want a FSB and rear flip up for an ACOG rifle? This is of course assuming I would remove the ACOG. |
PLUS ONE! However, due the prisms and magnification, the BUIS will not be usable through the ACOG. There isn't anything low enough to use UNDER the ACOG (unless mounted to a carry handle). Might want to consider switching to a LaRue ACOG mount, since it's simply a better mount, and in the event you need to remove it, especially under duress/speed, the throw levers are much easier to use than finding something to loosen the knobs then spin them open on the factory TA-51 mount. Also, it repeats zero, so if you want to remove it from time to time to practive with your irons, you won't lose zero when you replace it on your upper. |
The TA51 mounts I've seen will RTZ, you just need witness marks on the knobs and on the upper (or the mount) to tighten back up to. The ADM/Larue mounts just ensure repeatable clamping force on the rails. EDIT: Forgot to toss in my $.02...I've got my TA31 sitting above a Troy BUIS, prior to that I had a YHM BUIS. Both work great, and are great with my fixed FSB. If you wanted to, I'm sure you could stack 3 risers on top of each other, then stick the TA51 mount on top with your ACOG. You could deploy the BUIS under the ACOG then, and you'd have a sweet chin weld to go with it. |
