hey, I'm thinking about slapping an ACOG on my A4, and I have a potentially moronic question:

do I have to worry about anything if I have a welded front sight instead of a flip-down?  I don't want my front sight post messing around with the ACOG sight picture...

thanks for tolerating my naivete

Lots of Marines and Soldiers don't consider it a problem.  If you look for it, you will see a gray blur from the front sight, but when you are shooting, you won't notice it.

I haven't noticed.  My ACOG ix a 3x, magnification will certainly play a role.

As long as you don't try to focus on the sight you will not see it. When you start using it you might gat a slightly darker portion of your view, but it will go away very quick. And when you use your ACOG remember both eyes open..

really?  I would think it would obstruct the BDC...

oh yeah, also, what kind of grouping can one expect from an ACOG?  I understand it's a tactical sight and I like the versatility, but if I sit back on a bench with a good load for the rifle am I going to be able to hit sub-MOA?  I have the NM trigger and NM iron sights now, and with my trashy ammo I'm hitting about 1.5 MOA pretty regularly.  any experiences on how much or how little the ACOG tightens up groups?

Your front sight is actually welded?

no, it's just the standard front sight mount, not a rail.  pinned, but not welded.  apologies for mixing up the terms...

Glad to help.  This is my first ACOG and I just got it, so I am still getting to know it.  I would say you notice the FSB less in person than the pic shows.
Anyone else who has more experience with ACOGs and FSB what do you think?

The front sight post won't be a problem at all.

May I reccomend the TA31RCO-A4CP?

Great scopes

Agree. I have two ACOG's, both with stock FSB's, and it is not a problem to me.
