I am a first time AR buyer and right now I am looking at getting a stag model 1. I have heard good things about these guns (correct??). I was wondering if I will see a shadow from the front sight with a high magnification scope? Sorry if this is a common question..... Thanks

It's a common question, one that I had, and got answerred.  At 3X-4X the front sight will be a shadow, but the scope is usable at these low magnifications.  Any magnification higher than that and the front sight will be completely invisible. The iron sights line-of-sight is 1.4" above the rail.  Super high or ultra high (or whatever the manufacturer happens to call them) will also put the centerline of the scope at 1.4" above the rail, so sighting thru the scope will be the same as  sighting with the irons--something that is usually desireable.  Suggest that you use that as your baseline, and deviate from that only after you prove to yourself that you need or want something different.

P.S.: As far as I know, Stag has an excellant reputation and will undoubtedly suit your purposes.

high magnification means the front sight will not be seen.  No magification means the front sight will be seen.
