I did some looking and couldn't find an answer, so here goes...

I decided to take the plunge and make the move towards an 4x32 ACOG (TA31A).  While looking at their website, I'm still a little troubled about actually mounting it on my flat-top.

I really don't plan to take it off the rails once I zero it so I will not really need the versatility of a quick off/on setup.  I've looked at the LaRue mounts and some others, I'm looking for some feedback on what might be good for what I'm trying to do.

I appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thanks so much.

I have a TA01NSN that came with the Trijicon TA51 thumbscrew mount.
I have the Larue/Troy front and rear sight combo also mounted.

while I still like to shoot the Irons, I can mount my ACOG on and really reach out and touch someone/targets!

I never have to worry about zero, so I don't have any problem taking it off and putting it back on. It holds zero!

From reading many posts on here, others have the ACOG or other  type of sight mounted with the BUIS also mounted. And that is probably all that they are a Back-Up iron sights.

The Larue mounts are very, very nice. I have 2 of the LT-104 scope mounts on two different rifles.

The extra $50 it would cost you for the Larue LT-100 over the Trijicon TA-51 in my opinion is well worth the extra money, but not absolutley necessary. Especially if you say you are not going to be taking it off and remounting it.

There is one other thing to consider, the Trijicon TA-51 mount only requires that you hand tighten the thumbscrews. If you leave it permanently mounted, you would have to periodically check tightness of your thumbscrews. This is a minuscule task I know but with the Larue mount you have peace of mind that your ACOG is always secure.

As much as I take my ACOG off and remount it, I would love to have the Larue, but $$ hold me back right now. I am spending my $$ on ammo and reloading equipment.

Maybe I'll get one for Christmas!

If you want to mount it and not take it off then I would suggest the JP ACOG mount.  It sits at the same height as the LaRue but clamps down with three allen head screws that sit flush with the side of the mount.  It is a very clean setup and only costs $65 delivered.  I have one on my 6.8 SPC which gets used for 3-gun matches.  My ACOG has a MRD sitting on top for CQB and I figure if both sights crap out then I am out of the competition for that day and BUIS are not needed.

ETA: Here is a link in the EE for a TA51 for $50 shipped, cant beat that

I appreciate the help gents.  It will be a tough call between the Larue and the JP mounts.  The TA51 it also ok, however, I've had mounts with those type of tightening screws before...short of locktite, there seemingly is no guarantee they don't come loose.  Can't afford the loose screws when the zombies attack.

Thanks again.
