I'm trying to buy my first reflex sight for my AR, and i've pretty much made up my mind on an Aimpoint. I've seen some good deals, but i'm trying to figure out if there's really any difference aside from the battery life on an ML2 and an ML3. Is an ML3 worth the extra cash, if I don't mind switching out the battery once a year or so anyway? Also, how does the Larue LT-150 co-witness on an AR's iron sights? Would it be an absolute, or a lower 1/3? |

Try checking out Aimpoints site... Aimpoint I've been looking there for info on some of the discontinued sights, as I picked up a Comp ML awhile back in a trade deal. I think the 3 might be the one with the rubberized coating around the sight, making it more durable for hazardous use as well. |

ML2 has a bigger dot and the ML3 can be had with a smaller 2MOA dot. Depends on what range you want to shoot at and how large you like your dots. LT-150 will make a lower 1/3. You want a lower 1/3 as you will have a fine optic on your upper and there is no need for iron sights unless the darn battery goes tits up. Even then for CQB a dead AP makes a fine ghost ring rear sight for the front post. Lower 1/3 keeps your field of view clearer. Bottom line, AP ML2 or ML3 is a great way to go to ensure you get a first rate optic. If I had to buy another one, I would get a ML3 with a 2MOA dot. I have a ML2 now but would not trade it just to upgrade to smaller dot. |
