Hey guys,

I just bought myself an AR-15, and am looking to get myself a good scope.  Not needing anything with a powerful zoom.  I think a 4x would be plenty for what I need. Preferrably one that I can just attach to the rail when I remove the handle.

I just thought I would ask the experts for some advice and see what kind of scope I should look for, where I can find them, and pricing.  As you can tell, I'm new to this, so I really need some help with this.

I would appreciate any and all feedback/help on this.  (And be gentle, I'm new here Thanks.

Of course everything depends on your budget...

With that said, the IOR M2 with 5.56 bullet drop/ cqb reticle is a great choice in a fixed 4x.  It runs about $350.

If you are looking for a decent "cheap" scope, the bushnell banner 4x scope with circle-x reticle is pretty darn good.  Decent glass, quick to acquire target, and very tough.  I have one on my .30/30.  They run about $70.

Hope that helps.  Just stay away from (IMHO) Leapers, Barska, Famous Maker, etc...

If you want to back and forth, between the Detachable carry handle, and a Scope in it's own dedicated mount (as you seem to have stated) you need to consider another costly aspect to
scoping the rifle.

A LaRue Tactical SPR mount is about $195-215, and will lose little to no zero if you swap.
There are few others that can say that.

If I wanted a 4x fixed scope to keep for a long time, I'd look the IOR Valdada 4x

or a Bushnell 4200 Elite 1-4 variable
www.swfa.com/pc-13201-185-new-bushnell-125-4x24-elite-4200-rifle-scope.aspx

Or the Trijicon Accupoint, also variable

So, what did you want to spend again?

Thanks for all the great feed back!

My budget is 200-500, that would be ideal.

I really like the IOR M2 scope.
Seems reliable and has some very good reviews.

Now, NOOB question here, what kind of a mount would I be needing for this scope??

Thanks for the great response!  Greatly appreciated.

That would be a Larue SPR or an SPR-E mount, depending on how far forward you want it.
