I have a rra ar with removable handle. I been using the iron sites ad got them sited in . Problem is my eyes are not good at all and anything over 75yds is hard for me. I was thinking on removing the handle and getting a nice piece of glass from nikkon, or leupold, or something. My question is, I will still be able to use the scope close quarters as long as the magnification is clicked down, right?? I mean the scope be good at 200yds and 50yds???? IThis is my first ar so I am thinking I will put glass on this one and when I get my smith m&p flat top I can go with red dot on it. thanx |

My eyes are not so great either, and I use a red dot or holosight for up close, and a variety of magnified scopes for further out. Works great. A good choice for close to midrange is a 1-4x scope - these are very popular right now, and the Millett DMS-1 is a pretty affordable one, if not as nice as the big boys. Sight it in at 50 yards, and you'll be within 2" from 50-200 yards. If you get mildots or some other bullet drop/ranging reticle, you'll be able to work up the holdover pretty well. |
Have you considered having an eye exam and getting some corrective lenses? I am not saying this to be a dick, but if you cannot see well you need to correct that. I don't like magnified glass at all, I do like eotechs as you can hit a man sized target easily out to 200 yards or more. |
