Edited to answer questions:

This maybe a dumb question, but I can’t figure this out and I figured someone here will know the answer to this question.

I have a 512 with a 3X magnifier behind it.  This is mounted on an LMT M4. If I mount the magnifier in a position to get the eye relief correct, so I can see the entire field of view, the magnifier hits me in the nose and/or eye brow when I fire the rifle.  If I back off of the magnifier enough to not get hit, I can’t see the full field of view.  I can see the dot and circle but the field of view is hazy (dark) around the edges and I can only see through the center of the magnifier.  I have moved the magnifier forward and backwards and adjusted my cheek position.  But I can’t seem to get the magnifier in the proper position.

I first noticed this as I was zeroing the sight on a bench so I thought maybe the rifle was jumping in the rest.  But it gives me a little whack when I am firing the rifle free handed also.   Not enough to break the skin or anything, just enough to be annoying.

I have other rifles with scopes mounted to them and I don’t get hit when I fire those rifles.  So I do know what I am doing.   But I can not figure this out.  It has been suggested to me that I may have an eye issue the will not allow the magnifier to work for me.  I hope this is not true as I really like this set up.

This is a real EOTech not a clone.

Hey look!  I finally go a picture to post.  Whoo hooo!

Now, with my nose touching the charging handle I can see the full field of view.  I have to be this close to the magnifier to see the full field of view.  But, as stated above, I will get a tap on the eye brow if I shoot it this close.

I would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance,
KW

This is a .223 cal rifle?

It sounds like the magnifier lacks eye relief.

Is it a EoTech 3X or a clone? The real deal should have better eye relief.

Have you adjusted the elevation and azimuth on the magnifier to get the EoTech reticle centered? If not do this and see if this allows you to get farther back.

I have adjusted the magnifier to center the reticle.

I honestly can not understand why I can't get this right.  It does appear to be an eye relief issue.  Thing is, a couple of friends have looked through it and they say the samething.  The eye relief is close.  Closer than it should be anyway.

I called EOTech to ask about this but I didn't get an answer.  At this point I am still lookiing for an answer.

Where did you buy it? The reason I ask is that I have seen some pretty good Aimpoint 3X counterfeits at gun shows and maybe some EoTech ones are starting to show up. With the Aimpoint lack of eye relief is one of the ways to spot a counterfeits.

can you post a pic?  that might help us a bit.  my magnifier sits just forward of the charging handle and the eye relief is perfect.  but makes the front half of the hws sit over the handguard.  it's still bolted to the receiver, though

i love my setup, except for the fact that the FTS mount has too many parts and has complex construction.  using it is simple enough, though.

I have my 3x butted up against my BUIS and just behind the 512. The eye relief seems pretty good to me in this position. When I first got the magnifier it took a bit to get used to the eye relief though; I felt like I had to get my eye right up to it. But when i take it to the range I don't have any issues at all.

It looks like we have the magnifier mounted in almost the same position on both of our rifles.  I placed the 512 a little further forward to make it easier to turn it off and on.  But I don’t think that would have an effect on the magnifier eye relief maybe so.

I feel like I have to be right up to the magnifier it see through it (full view that is)  As I think I stated, the magnifier works great except for the bumping my head part.

It doesn’t seem to matter what shooting position I am in, on the bench, standing, kneeing, prone, I am going to get a whack if I am close enough to the magnifier to see the full view through it.  I have gotten two friends to shoot this rifle as well one of them gets hit every time he shoots it like I do, the other one doesn’t.

Honestly, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the magnifier.  I think my eyes and it just ain’t gonna line up and work together.  I don’t understand it, but I think that is the problem.  I may need to sell this and get a scope of some sort if I want to shoot with magnification.  But, I was hoping to get this to work so I could have both a quick sight picture (512 alone) and some magnification when I needed it without swapping sights.

Anyone got any ideas on what I need to do,

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but you might want to consider getting an Aimpoint magnifier instead of the Eotech.  I had the same problem.  I suppose it's just shooting style, but the Aimpoint has a bit of a longer eye relief than the Eotech does.

The "combat" type optics, like the magnifiers and the ACOGs seem to be designed for nose to the charging handle type shooting wherein a short eye relief is useful.  I'm not in the military of anything, but seem to have more money than sense when it comes to this stuff, so I've gone through a lot of what's out there.

Although I do use a magnifier, it isn't anything that I'd say that I like.  I wound up just running a red dot on a LT mount and getting a LT mount for my DMS-1 and go back and forth as the need arises.  When I need magnification, I much prefer to shoot with the DMS-1 than the dot scope with magnifier.
