Just recently I bought a Barska 6x24 rifle scope and put it on my DPMS AR-15. It came with some scope rings that seem to work just fine. I was wondering though how much do cheap scope rings affect long range accuracy. It's a 500-700 yard shooter or so I hear. I bought it from a guy who got it from a guy who shot it in target competitions. Only has had 500 rounds through it. It has a 20" Pacnor barrel and brand new lower. How do you tell the difference between cheap scope rings and good quality scope rings? My ar15 |
Rings are only part of the system, but if they're machined improperly or made of poor material, all that badness will end up affecting the scope one way or the other. If the rings don't have the same center or are of different heights, then the tube will probably be bent, and in time that affects service life. To tell the difference between bad and good takes to tools for measuring and then comparing the measurements to the specs. Not a problem if you have neither. There a lot of experienced knowledgeable people right here at this board. But that works well before you buy them. Since you already have them, go shooting, take notes of performance. When the performance changes, back track to see if you made any changes, if you haven't, and you suspect the scope, you can test the scope using a bore sighter. If you suspect the rings since you were unsure of them to begin with, switch them out for a brand with a better reputation. There's more that goes wrong than goes right with this stuff, so don't worry if you have to test things out or redo it all together. ETA: me english not so good |
