Anyone have any experience with these.  I was told these are what are being issued to our troops.

Yeah. Good BUIS for the money. I got mine for half  Be careful not to over torque the screw when you put the sight on. They're a bit fragile. Some one in another thread makes an upgrade. Do a search for it.

They are the standard issue BUIS for our troops. I liked mine alot, but seemed a little fragile if droped while the apeture was in the up position.

Pay attention to the post above about over torquing!  They are a BACK UP iron sight.  If you are planning to use this for a primary sight, then I would go with something else.  As noted above, it has a fairly thin piece of metal sticking up unprotected when you deploy it.  The aperture is fairly small, as it is more of a precision sight, useful more for longer range than up close.  Some have drilled out the aperture to make it easer to use in low light, and faster.  They stay down using a little metal nub which engages the body of the sight.  I have seen those who have used them a lot complain about the nub wearing down and the sight deploying itself when banged around.

All that said, I have 5-6 of them and am happy with them.  They get sighted in, and then folded down and placed out of the way and forgotten about.  If you like to play with you sights- frequently deploying/storing the site then, again, I would get something else.

I am sure someone will be along soon with the gun with a matech deployed that was blown up with an IED.  I think that the fact the matech survived was more of a coincidence of how the blast force was directed, and the force on the rifle than the durability of the sight.  I think there are more durable BUISs out there, but most are bulkier.  My 0.02

They've got a pretty small aperture (0.075", about the same as the A2 small aperture), so aren't as good for close-up use as dual-aperture or large aperture BUIS.  They also take up 2 slots on the upper, and are pretty high, so they can be a problem with some mounts and optics.

If you flip them a lot, the locking bump can wear, but as stated, they're a BUIS, so normally aren't deployed a lot.

They are perfect for range duty. I'd use a Troy if I was in combat, however.

The Matech is plenty sturdy (it doesn't look like it, but it is), however the aperture makes it tough to acquire targets quickly.

Okay, you guys talked me out of it.  I went with my first choice - ARMS 40L.  My main issue is keeping it out of the way of my Leupold MRT 1.5-5/Larue SPR.  Thanks for your help AGAIN.

P.S. A guy at the gun show (Valley Forge, PA) tried to sell me that Matech site for $150.00 this weekend!
