I'm looking for a scope for my 20" SS DPMS that I hope to waste prairie dogs with this summer.
I'm thinking max power 18x-24x and below $400.
I'd prefer a name brand (I have some experience with Burris and like them), but I'm open to quality off brands.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated,

Thanks

I recommend you at least try looking through some of them.  They are better than anything else until you get into about 2x the price.  You should be able to find a SII for 6-20 or 4.5-14 for around 400 bucks.   I am very happy with them.  If you look on midway and look at some of the reviews there you will see that there are lots of other people that like them too.  They also have a lifetime warranty.

Just please dont waste your money on a NcStar.  See lots of people complaining about them.

I've been pretty happy with my 10x42 SuperSniper's ( for prairie dog busting ) on a Savage 10FP and an AR-15.  SuperSnipers can be had for around $300 ( www.riflescopes.com ).  My Dad prefers the Sightron SII (mumble I forget which model he shoots with ), it's a variable but he mostly left it at 10x IIRC.   He was complaining that the price on the Sightron's had gone up substantially since he first bought. I've got a Tasco 6x24x42 varmint scope on a 10/22 and it's a pretty crap-tastic scope ( turrets are nasty and I couldn't get it to shoot the box ).

For the money I think you would be hard pressed to beat one of these
Elite 3200 5-15x40 or one of these Elite 3200 7-21x40

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

The Sightrons look like they're right at my sweet spot, money and quality wise.

I've been looking on nathchez, midwayusa, and now riflescopes.com.  Anyone know of anywhere else that might have  a good deal?

This place usually beats the hell out of everyone Buds Gun Shop but they are currently out of stock and their website is not the easiest to navigate

We will meet or beat anyone’s price on items we stock.

For a low cost good quality Optic I recommend the Bushnell ELITE 3200 5-15X40 T-MILDOT MAT $329.95.  Also they are in stock.

Wow I looked around and the prices have gone up just in the last year too.  Shame.

Its probably not exactly what your looking for but here is a smoking deal on a 4.5-14, but its duplex href=Ebay Sightron SII

I bet Buds goes up on that price alot when they get more in.

If you cant find one around the right price you are gonna have to make a big decision.

Sightron SII is about the same quality as Burris Signature Select or a Bushnell elite 4200 (not the 3200).  So if you cant find an SII for the right price then you are gonna have to drop down in quality and for that I would look at Sightron SI as they are supposed to be on par with the Bushnell 3200 and Burris Fullfield but cost less.

It does appear however that the price gape between Sightron and comparable scopes are closing and thats a bummer.

I don't think I would go that far, to tell you the truth I believe them to be close in optical quality and tracking as an Elite 3200 but I would like other opinions on this matter.

ETA: IMHO the Sightron S1 I looked through was a turd.

Optics Talk thread on SII vs 4200

Now I dont own any SI so I cant say alot about them.  They are priced the same as the other cheap scopes I dont own either so I suspect they are as good as what you pay.

If you look around a bit you will find some people complaining about the quality compared to others and you will find people claiming them to be the best and about 90% of both having no clue what they are talking about.

Maybe my eyes arent as good as some people but I do have 20/20 and I cannot see the difference between a Burris Sig Select a Bushnell 4200 or a Sightron SII.  The higher prices of SII lends credibility to this as they are approaching the cost of both of those.

For my .02 on scopes I would never buy a Leupo, or any of the outrageously overpriced brands.  Burris, Sightron and Bushnell are the best bang for the buck out there imo.
